Environmental Field Technician Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a environmental field technician in Alaska?
Most environmental field technician positions in Alaska require at minimum a bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, chemistry, or a related field, along with completed HAZWOPER training. Alaska does not issue a single state license for the role, but the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation sets the compliance standards technicians must understand. Many employers also require a valid Alaska driver's license and familiarity with the Alaska Oil and Hazardous Substance Release Prevention and Response Act.
Which companies hire environmental field technicians in Alaska?
Alaska environmental field technician roles are posted by Jacobs, Worley, and Nortech and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's oil and gas sector, federal land management agencies, and remediation contractors are consistently among the largest sources of field technician openings in the state.
Which Alaska cities have the most environmental field technician jobs?
Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau account for the most environmental field technician openings in Alaska. Anchorage drives volume as the state's largest city and home to corporate offices for major energy and engineering firms, while Fairbanks serves as a gateway to North Slope and Interior Alaska operations, and Juneau concentrates openings tied to state agency work and Southeast Alaska resource management.
Are there remote environmental field technician jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're rare. Environmental field technician work is inherently hands-on, requiring physical sample collection, site inspections, and field documentation that cannot be done remotely. About 31% of environmental field technician openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve data reporting, GIS analysis, or compliance documentation rather than active field collection.
How can I get hired as a environmental field technician in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or seasonal field assistant role with a state agency or remediation contractor. The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and federal agencies like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regularly bring on seasonal technicians and recent graduates for monitoring projects. Completing your 40-hour HAZWOPER certification before applying gives you a measurable edge, and lateral moves from water quality monitoring or wildlife biology technician roles are a common route into full environmental field technician positions.
Where can I find and apply to environmental field technician jobs in Alaska?
You can find and apply to environmental field technician jobs in Alaska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alaska openings from employers actively hiring right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
