Position Summary:
The Student Advocate plays a critical role in supporting student success by monitoring attendance, tracking academic progress—especially for students using Edgenuity—and developing strong, supportive relationships with students, staff, and families. This individual will serve as a liaison between the school and home, assist in classrooms, support student mediation efforts, and help implement systems that promote a positive and productive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Attendance & Intervention
- Monitor daily student attendance and track trends.
- Conduct weekly check-ins with students who struggle with consistent attendance. Require Power Hour attendance and follow up with students failing more than 2 classes every 3 weeks.
- Develop and implement a positive reward system for students who are habitually absent.

Collaborate with parents/guardians (in-person if possible) to develop individualized attendance support plans and communicate these to the student's teachers (typically in person).

Classroom & Student Support
- Assist in every classroom for at least one class period per quarter to build rapport with students and staff.
- Learn and document how students work best with each teacher, noting preferences, strengths, and areas of concern.

Support students using Ingenuity in your classroom and provide academic help as needed.

Ingenuity Monitoring & Communication
- Monitor and maintain records of all student progress in Ingenuity (excluding students in Senior Success).

Send weekly progress updates to counselors, parents/guardians, students, and Special Education case managers (when applicable).

Behavior & Mediation Support
- Assist in the mediation of student conflicts to foster a safe and respectful school climate.

Be active and visible in hallways during passing periods to build positive relationships and reinforce behavioral expectations.

Collaboration & School Engagement
- Attend Village Council meetings to identify community supports and follow through on assigned action items.
- Assist with class coverage and school supervision as needed.
- Present compiled attendance data regularly to faculty and administration.
Qualifications
- Requires compliance with USBE state license requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience working with youth in a school or counseling setting is strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both youth and adults.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and data-tracking skills.
- Comfortable using digital tools and platforms (ingenuity, email, attendance software, etc.).
Work Environment:
This position operates primarily within the school building.
Requires flexibility to be present in multiple classrooms, hallways, and meetings throughout the school day.
Occasional evening or weekend communication with families may be needed.

Licensure Requirements
All applicants must have a Professional Educator License awarded by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) or apply for an Associate Educator License (AEL) to be eligible to apply to Jordan School District and participate in our Alternate Pathway to Professional Educator Licensing (APPEL) Program when hired.
Proof of an AEL is required before you will be added to the candidate pool. Follow this link for information on how to apply for an AEL.
Proof of enrollment in a teacher certification program at a local university will also be accepted in lieu of an AEL.

UTAH STATE RETIREMENT
Benefit eligible employees are automatically members of the Utah Retirement Systems (URS). This means that the District contributes into the URS plan on your behalf each month. After the URS vesting period of four years, you will have either the Hybrid option, which is a combination of a pension with a 401k plan, or the 401k option if you choose.
