COMPANY DESCRIPTION
California Bioenergy LLC (CalBio) is one of the country’s leading developers of dairy digester projects. Our projects generate renewable natural gas and electricity which is used as a vehicle fuel to power clean trucks, buses, and cars. Founded in 2006, CalBio works closely with local dairy farmers, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC), the California Energy Commission (CEC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the dairy industry to develop projects that reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs), protect local air and water quality, create local jobs, and provide a new revenue stream along with other meaningful benefits to its dairy partners. Along with its affiliates, Midwest Bioenergy, Northwest Bioenergy, and Southwest Bioenergy, CalBio is undertaking the development, construction, ownership, and operation of dozens of dairy digester projects across the country.
POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Chiller HVAC Technician will be responsible for the safe execution of all field maintenance repairs, including but not limited to planned and unplanned work, emergency repairs, and overall maintenance of Chillers and HVAC systems. CalBio is a data-driven company and depends heavily on mechanical and electrical instruments for success.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the proper functioning of all Chiller and HVAC systems (Carrier, G&D, Johnson Controls, AGT and Cold Shot, Daikin and Bard A/C systems).
- Ensure all work activities are captured in E-Maintenance CMMS.
- Coordinates with the Maintenance Planner by communicating anticipated jobs and provides input when stores stocks need to be increased or altered for upcoming jobs to maintain maintenance schedules.
- With the Maintenance Planner, develop work and update schedules, Parts Kitting, and PM Tasks to optimize workflow and reliability.
- Inspect new construction installations and assist with commissioning new chillers.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose chiller faults using tozi box and other principles to effectively identify and repair equipment.
- Ensure the application of company rules of conduct and health & safety protocols during maintenance procedures to minimize injuries and lost time incidents.
- Complete Period Maintenance on A/C systems at PDCs and Control Rooms.
- Remove and install small AC units at sites as needed.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT
Performance will be assessed 90 days after initial hire, and then annually after that. Performance will be measured against plant operating efficiency, uptime (reliability), and cost expectations. The successful professional will be measured against adherence to company policy, GAAP, and ability to drive sustained efficiency through personal effort, communication, teamwork, and ability to leverage external resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five (5) years of experience in HVAC and/or chiller maintenance.
- Completion of a technical training program in refrigeration, mechanical, or electrical repair and maintenance plus three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and education will be considered.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in chiller, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation trades.
- Strong technical understanding of chillers, refrigeration systems, glycol pumps, 3‑phase 480V motors, and scroll compressors.
- Working knowledge of electrical applications for both high‑ and low‑voltage systems.
- Demonstrated skill in removing and installing pumps, evaporative coils, and condenser coils.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with eMaint CMMS is highly desirable.
- RETA certification is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work locations are primarily outdoors in the San Joaquin Valley. Duties will include industrial and agricultural site visits daily. When required, possible very limited exposure to hazardous materials and/or toxic fumes will require the use of approved personal protective equipment. California Bioenergy will ensure all applicable work rules and safety requirements are closely adhered to.
This position will require light lifting (<50 lbs.) and/or climbing ladder and/or stairs.
