Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Land Acquisition Manager
Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
Land acquisition work sits at the intersection of real estate law, finance, and project management. Document your degree field and professional experience in property valuation, zoning analysis, or site feasibility so your training plan maps cleanly to U.S. specialty occupation criteria.
Identify host employers through public LCA filings
Real estate developers and land investment firms that have sponsored foreign professionals previously show up in DOL disclosure data. Search those filings to pinpoint companies already comfortable with international hiring before you apply.
Search for J-1-compatible roles on Migrate Mate
Filter for Land Acquisition Manager positions on Migrate Mate to surface U.S. employers whose hiring patterns align with J-1 sponsorship. Targeting companies already familiar with international hires shortens the path from offer to DS-2019 issuance considerably.
Confirm your program category before approaching sponsors
If you hold a degree and have at least one year of relevant post-graduation experience, the Trainee category applies. Without that experience threshold, the Intern category may be the only option, which limits placement to current students or recent graduates within 12 months of graduation.
Prepare a detailed training plan tied to U.S. site analysis workflows
Your designated sponsor must sign off on a structured training plan. Draft it around specific U.S. competencies you'll gain, such as municipal entitlement processes, ALTA survey interpretation, or environmental due diligence protocols, so the sponsor can verify genuine training objectives.
Clarify the two-year home residency rule with your host employer upfront
Some J-1 participants are subject to a two-year home-country residency requirement before switching to certain other visa categories. Raise this early in offer negotiations so your host employer understands any constraints on future H-1B or green card pathways.

Find Land Acquisition Manager JobsLand Acquisition Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Land Acquisition Manager role?
Most Land Acquisition Manager placements fall under the Trainee category, which requires a degree plus at least one year of post-graduation work experience, or the Specialist category for professionals with a recognized occupation-specific expertise. Current students or those within 12 months of graduation may qualify under the Intern category instead, but that pathway is narrower for a managerial-level position.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa, the real estate firm or a sponsor organization?
The real estate development firm or land investment company is your host employer, not your visa sponsor. Your J-1 sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT that issues the DS-2019 form, monitors your program compliance, and maintains the official sponsorship relationship with the State Department throughout your placement.
How do I find Land Acquisition Manager positions where the employer is open to J-1 placements?
Search for Land Acquisition Manager roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces U.S. employers whose hiring history aligns with international sponsorship pathways. Targeting companies already experienced with J-1 host arrangements reduces friction because they understand the training plan requirements and the role of the designated sponsor organization in the process.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to land acquisition professionals?
It depends on your home country's bilateral agreements with the U.S. and whether your J-1 program was government-funded or involves a skill on the Exchange Visitor Skills List. If the requirement applies, you must return home for two years before obtaining an H-1B, L-1, or immigrant visa, so clarifying your specific situation before accepting an offer is critical.
Can a Land Acquisition Manager on J-1 status work on multiple sites or travel domestically for site visits?
Yes, domestic business travel for site visits, due diligence inspections, and municipal hearings is consistent with J-1 status as long as you remain employed by your host organization and your activities fall within the scope of your approved training plan. Work at a different employer or unrelated commercial activity outside the plan would require separate authorization from your designated sponsor.
