Laboratory Jobs in Knoxville: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a laboratory job in Knoxville?
The strongest hiring in Knoxville comes from the research institutions tied to Oak Ridge and the University of Tennessee, clinical laboratories serving the Medical Center district, and environmental and quality testing firms supporting East Tennessee's manufacturing base. Candidates who have hands-on experience with instrumentation, familiarity with quality or safety protocols, and any research exposure from UT or nearby community colleges tend to stand out in this market.
Which companies hire laboratorys in Knoxville?
Companies currently hiring laboratorys in Knoxville include Labcorp, CSL Plasma, and Bureau Veritas, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Knoxville's mix of federal research contractors, hospital systems, and industrial manufacturers means openings appear across a wider range of employer types than in many comparably sized cities.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Knoxville?
Yes, but only for a subset of roles, since most laboratory work requires physical access to equipment, specimens, or regulated materials. About 0% of laboratory openings tied to Knoxville are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, covering positions such as data review, regulatory affairs, and laboratory informatics. Fully hands-on roles in clinical, environmental, and research settings remain on-site.
How can I get a laboratory job in Knoxville with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Knoxville is through a laboratory assistant or technician role at one of the city's hospital-affiliated labs or contract testing facilities, which regularly hire candidates with an associate degree or relevant coursework. Programs at Pellissippi State Community College and UT Knoxville place graduates directly into local openings, and entry-level quality control positions at Knoxville-area manufacturers offer a lateral route into laboratory work without a four-year degree.
Which industries hire the most laboratorys in Knoxville?
Most laboratory openings in Knoxville sit in Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Knoxville's concentration of federal energy research, academic medical infrastructure, and Tennessee Valley manufacturing creates sustained local demand across those sectors regardless of broader economic cycles.
