Job Summary
- The Manager of Lab (Preanalytic) provides strategic and operational leadership for all preanalytic laboratory team members and functions, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality processes that directly impact patient care outcomes. This role is accountable for the overall management of daily operations, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and workforce development within a high-volume, service-driven environment. In addition to operational oversight, this leader plays a critical role in stabilizing and strengthening team culture and interdepartmental collaboration. The manager is expected to foster a transparent, accountable, and inclusive environment that builds engagement, promotes psychological safety, and drives staff retention through consistent leadership presence, clear expectations, and recognition of team contributions.
- The Preanalytic Manager of Lab serves as a key partner across the organization, collaborating closely with nursing, clinical departments, and other hospital stakeholders to ensure seamless workflows, service excellence, and responsiveness to patient and provider needs. This position must balance hospital-wide collaboration, ensuring consistency, and maintaining operational integrity while supporting system alignment and shared goals.

Essential Functions of the Role
- Manages the daily functions of the Preanalytic team in collaboration with all other areas of the laboratory to ensure efficiency. Performs all delegated functions as defined by the facility CLIA Director.
- Prepares schedules, coordinates job assignments, and monitors personnel including the selection, orientation, training, assignments, evaluations, discipline, and discharge of employees.
- Ensures staff has the training, experience, and skills needed for their duties by coordinating education, in-services, and orientations.
- Maintains appropriate personnel and patient records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist with budgeting. Provide information about supplies, personnel, and equipment. Seek cost containment avenues. Plan long-term purchases or capital equipment.
- Establishes and implements quality assurance programs and maintains standards and records that document compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Ensures the review of all quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance, and quality assurance records, and any associated corrective action.
- Provides input/support in the selection/purchase of capital equipment and the development of yearly budgets.
- Investigates, resolves and documents resolution of complaints concerning services.
- Building, coaching, and developing a high-performing team while addressing turnover and engagement challenges.
- Driving cross-functional collaboration to optimize workflows, service delivery, and patient experience.
- Establishing and reinforcing a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
- Implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and support scalability across the system.
- Works with the BSW Phlebotomy program to ensure workforce pipeline.
- Oversees performance management related to recruitment, hiring and termination of employees.

- Basic business knowledge includes annual planning, goal setting, budget adherence, employee compensation, compliance, and risk management.
- General computer skills include Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

- EDUCATION - Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
