Machine Learning Intern Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a machine learning intern in Washington?
Machine learning internships in Washington require no state license or registration. Most positions are open to students enrolled in a computer science, data science, or applied mathematics program at a Washington university such as the University of Washington, Washington State University, or Seattle University. Competitive candidates build practical projects, contribute to open-source repositories, and seek out research opportunities through university labs or industry partnerships before applying.
Which companies hire machine learning interns in Washington?
Employers hiring machine learning interns in Washington right now include TikTok, Apple, and ByteDance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's density of cloud, defense, and life sciences employers means intern programs here often involve production-scale systems and real research impact rather than purely academic exercises.
Which Washington cities have the most machine learning intern jobs?
Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond have the most machine learning intern openings in Washington. Seattle anchors the market through its concentration of major tech headquarters and AI research labs, while Redmond and Bellevue draw interns to cloud infrastructure and productivity software teams, and smaller hubs like Kirkland and Bothell reflect the broader eastside tech corridor that has grown around those anchor employers.
Are there remote machine learning intern jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 41% of machine learning intern openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of this work involves coding, model training, and data analysis that translates well to distributed settings. Roles focused on research, data pipelines, and model evaluation tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions requiring access to proprietary hardware or specialized lab equipment are more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a machine learning intern in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying through university research programs, where Washington employers like Microsoft and Amazon actively recruit students who have completed relevant coursework even without prior industry experience. Participating in a University of Washington or WSU research lab, contributing to a public ML project on GitHub, and completing a relevant Kaggle competition builds a portfolio that Washington hiring managers treat as equivalent to early work experience. Adjacent roles like data analyst intern or software engineer intern at a Washington employer also serve as common stepping stones into ML-focused positions.
Where can I find and apply to machine learning intern jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to machine learning intern jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Seattle, Redmond, Bellevue, and the rest of the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and availability, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
