ML Research Engineer Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a ml research engineer job in Seattle?
Focus your search on Seattle's South Lake Union corridor, the University District, and the Eastside tech cluster in Bellevue and Redmond, where cloud platforms, robotics, and applied AI teams concentrate. Candidates who can demonstrate published research, strong PyTorch or JAX proficiency, and experience with large-scale distributed training stand out. Targeting roles at cloud infrastructure companies and AI-focused labs gives you the strongest footing in this market.
Which companies hire ml research engineers in Seattle?
Companies currently hiring ml research engineers in Seattle include Apple, Scale AI, and ByteDance, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Seattle's hiring pool is unusually deep, mixing hyperscale cloud companies with autonomous vehicle startups, biotech firms, and university-affiliated research labs.
Are there remote ml research engineer jobs in Seattle?
Yes, though ml research engineering skews more on-site than most tech roles because hands-on GPU cluster access and lab collaboration are common requirements. About 0% of ml research engineer openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the remote share concentrating in modeling, evaluation, and applied research positions rather than infrastructure-heavy or hardware-adjacent roles.
How can I get a ml research engineer job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is through a research internship or contractor role at one of the city's cloud or robotics companies, which run structured early-career programs. Lateral entry through data science, software engineering, or ML platform engineering at Seattle-area startups is also common. A strong GitHub portfolio, a co-authored paper from a UW or Allen Institute collaboration, and familiarity with MLOps tooling all accelerate the transition into a full research engineer title.
Which industries hire the most ml research engineers in Seattle?
Seattle ml research engineer roles concentrate in Electronics & Hardware, Technology & Software, and Artificial Intelligence, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Seattle's position as the headquarters for major cloud platforms and its proximity to the University of Washington and the Allen Institute for AI makes it one of the most research-dense hiring markets in the country.
