JOB PURPOSE
Entry-level Information Technology (IT) position that works as a part of a team to assist, under supervision, to ensure the stable operation of Nevada Gold Mine's computer networks. Performs activities essential to planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. Performs more routine tasks or work on a minor phase of a larger project.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities and tasks:
- Install/troubleshoot network gear and cabling as required (focus on Layer 1 and Layer 2)
- Maintain network documentation (Solarwinds, Netbrain, Sharepoint Files, etc.)
- Collaborate with peers, administrators, engineers, and architects on network design and implementation
- Work with all departments to determine how best to support and implement their networking needs
- Travel to active mining and remote network sites to maintain and support network functions
- Configure switches, workgroup bridges, UPS, and other network infrastructure as directed by Network Lead
- Perform basic level network troubleshooting to isolate and correct network issues
- Provide 24/7 network support on a rotating on-call basis
- Resolve straightforward queries from others as applicable by providing information on policies and/or procedures, referring the most complex issues to others
- Contribute to the delivery of projects, carrying out specified project activities within defined time and quality parameters
- Follow the organization's HS&E policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions; to identify and mitigate risks, and to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others
- Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching
- Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Networking, or related Engineering discipline; or equivalent experience
- Basic level networking certification preferred (I.E. Network+ or equivalent)
Experience
- Familiarity with common network hardware
- Proficiency with Cisco IOS "show" commands
- Competency with physical installations
- Basic understanding of Wireless and Network fundamentals
- Competency with troubleshooting methodologies
- ITIL Fundamentals
