Tips for Your Network Systems Administrator Job Search
Tailor your resume to certifications
Hiring managers scan for certifications before reading work history. Lead with your active credentials like CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or CCNP, and list them exactly as they appear on your certificate so applicant tracking systems recognize them correctly.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists network systems administrator openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight vendor-specific hands-on experience
Generic phrases like 'managed network infrastructure' get skipped. Name the specific platforms you have configured, such as Cisco IOS, Juniper Junos, or Palo Alto, and include the scale, like the number of nodes or sites you supported.
Filter openings by environment type
Network administrator roles vary widely by environment. On-premises data center, hybrid cloud, and fully cloud-native positions each require a different skill emphasis, so narrow your search by environment type to avoid applying to roles where your background won't match.
Prepare a lab environment for technical screens
Most hiring panels include a live troubleshooting or configuration exercise. Practice in a home lab or a simulation tool like Cisco Packet Tracer before interviews so you can walk through routing, switching, or firewall scenarios without hesitation under pressure.
Negotiate scope before discussing compensation
Before salary conversations, clarify whether the role is on-call, covers how many sites, and what the team size is. Those details directly affect workload, and understanding them first gives you concrete reasons to justify your compensation ask.
Network Systems Administrator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most network systems administrators?
The companies hiring the most network systems administrators right now include Amazon, CVS Health, and Meta, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is strongest in healthcare systems, defense contractors, and large financial institutions with complex on-premises infrastructure.
How many network systems administrator jobs are remote?
About 18% of network systems administrator openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most on-site requirements tied to roles managing physical hardware. Cloud-focused positions, particularly those centered on network automation or virtual private networking, tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How do you become a network systems administrator?
Start by earning an associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field, then build hands-on skills through a home lab or entry-level helpdesk work. Earn foundational certifications like CompTIA Network+ followed by vendor credentials such as CCNA. From there, apply for junior network technician or administrator roles to build production experience before moving into full network systems administrator positions.
Can you get a network systems administrator job with little experience?
Yes, entry-level network administrator roles exist specifically for candidates with certifications but limited professional experience. Employers in managed service providers and mid-size companies often hire candidates who hold CompTIA Network+ or CCNA and can demonstrate hands-on lab or internship work. Focusing your applications on helpdesk or junior network technician postings first builds the production experience that moves you into a full administrator role faster.
What does the network systems administrator interview process look like?
Most hiring processes involve an initial phone screen with HR, followed by a technical interview where you walk through your experience with specific platforms and protocols. A live troubleshooting or configuration exercise is common in the second or third round, where interviewers present a network scenario and ask you to diagnose or resolve it. Final rounds often include a conversation with the IT manager or director about team fit and operational priorities.
Where can I find and apply to network systems administrator jobs?
You can find and apply to network systems administrator jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, certifications, and preferred location or work environment, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
