Tips for Your Data Center Infrastructure Job Search
Tailor your resume to each environment
Data center employers care whether you've worked in colocation, hyperscale, or enterprise environments, and those aren't interchangeable on a resume. Specify the type of facility, its scale in megawatts or cabinet count, and the specific infrastructure layer you owned or supported.
Lead with your certifications section
Hiring managers for data center infrastructure roles scan for credentials before reading job summaries. Put DCIM, BICSI RCDD, Uptime Institute ATD, or CompTIA credentials at the top, not buried in a footer, so your qualifications clear the first filter fast.
Target openings by Tier classification
Job postings often signal the facility's Uptime Institute Tier level in the requirements or responsibilities. Matching your experience to that Tier, Tier III versus Tier IV, for example, shows you understand the reliability and redundancy expectations before the interview starts.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists data center infrastructure openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for hands-on scenario questions
Interviewers routinely walk candidates through failure scenarios: a UPS goes offline during a maintenance window, a cooling unit trips, a cross-connect is mislabeled. Practice talking through your diagnostic steps and escalation path out loud before your technical interview.
Negotiate shift differentials and on-call terms
Many data center infrastructure roles involve rotating shifts or on-call rotations, and those terms are almost always negotiable before you sign. Ask specifically about the on-call frequency, call-back windows, and whether shift differentials are included in the base or paid separately.
Data Center Infrastructure Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most data center infrastructures?
The companies hiring the most data center infrastructures right now include Amazon, Fluidstack, and Oracle, with the largest share of openings in Oregon, Texas, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is highest at colocation providers, hyperscale cloud operators, and large enterprise IT organizations expanding their owned capacity.
How many data center infrastructure jobs are remote?
About 8% of data center infrastructure openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on physical nature of most roles in this field. Remote options are most common in data center program management, DCIM software administration, and infrastructure capacity planning positions that don't require regular on-floor presence.
How do you become a data center infrastructure?
Start by building a foundation in electrical systems, networking, or facilities management through a technical degree or vocational program. Earn an entry-level certification such as CompTIA Network+ or a BICSI credential, then pursue roles as a data center technician or facilities coordinator to gain hands-on experience with power, cooling, and structured cabling systems before advancing to infrastructure engineer or architect positions.
How do you get hired in data center infrastructure with little experience?
Entry-level data center technician roles are the standard starting point, and many employers will hire candidates with strong electrical or networking fundamentals even without direct facility experience. Prioritize obtaining one vendor-neutral certification before applying, emphasize any hands-on lab, trade, or military infrastructure experience on your resume, and target colocation providers, which hire more entry-level technicians than hyperscalers typically do.
What does the data center infrastructure interview process look like?
Most processes include an initial phone screen with a recruiter or hiring manager, followed by a technical interview covering power systems, cooling design, or network fundamentals depending on the role. Hands-on candidates often face a site walkthrough or practical scenario round. Senior infrastructure and architecture roles typically add a system design or capacity planning exercise before a final panel interview with cross-functional stakeholders.
Where can I find and apply to data center infrastructure jobs?
You can find and apply to data center infrastructure jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
