What Employers Look For
The qualifications that appear most often in senior cloud infrastructure engineer jobs.
- Five or more years of hands-on experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure at scale
- Deep proficiency with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CloudFormation

- Relevant cloud certification such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional infrastructure projects and mentor junior engineers
Tips for Your Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Job Search
Quantify cloud scale on your resume
Employers scan for concrete indicators of scope, so replace vague phrases like 'managed cloud infrastructure' with specifics: petabytes stored, thousands of compute nodes managed, or uptime percentages sustained. Numbers cut through generic resumes faster than any technology list.
List certifications in the right order
AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, and Azure Solutions Architect Expert each signal different ecosystems. Put the certification that matches the job posting first, not the one you earned most recently, so recruiters see alignment immediately.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior cloud infrastructure engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by the cloud stack they use
A job posting that lists Terraform, Kubernetes, and Prometheus signals a different team culture and day-to-day than one focused on managed PaaS services. Targeting roles whose toolchain matches your depth saves you from interviews where you'd be learning on the job.
Prepare a live architecture walkthrough
Most senior-level cloud infrastructure interviews include a whiteboard or diagramming exercise. Practice narrating a real system you designed aloud, including the tradeoffs you made on cost, reliability, and security, so you can explain decisions confidently without referencing notes.
Negotiate total compensation, not just base pay
Cloud infrastructure roles at senior and staff levels often include equity, on-call stipends, and certification reimbursement. Before accepting an offer, ask explicitly about each component so you can compare offers across different company structures on equal footing.
Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior cloud infrastructure engineers?
The companies hiring the most senior cloud infrastructure engineers right now include NVIDIA, Apple, and Walmart, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is concentrated in technology, financial services, and healthcare, where large-scale cloud migrations and reliability requirements drive continuous hiring.
How many senior cloud infrastructure engineer jobs are remote?
About 35% of senior cloud infrastructure engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the distributed nature of modern platform and reliability teams. Roles focused on platform engineering, site reliability, and cloud architecture tend to carry the highest remote share, while positions requiring hands-on data center or on-premises integration are more likely to require on-site presence.
How do you become a senior cloud infrastructure engineer?
Start by building a strong foundation in networking, Linux systems administration, and at least one major cloud platform. Progress through mid-level cloud or DevOps roles where you own production systems end-to-end. Earn a professional-level cloud certification, gain experience with infrastructure-as-code and container orchestration, and demonstrate that you can design systems for reliability, cost efficiency, and security at scale.
Can you get hired as a senior cloud infrastructure engineer without direct senior-level experience?
You can make the transition by positioning mid-level experience that involved genuine ownership of complex systems. Employers respond to candidates who can describe architectural decisions they drove, incidents they resolved independently, and infrastructure they designed from scratch, even if your title was cloud engineer or DevOps engineer. A portfolio of infrastructure-as-code projects on a public repository also demonstrates senior-level capability concretely.
What does the senior cloud infrastructure engineer interview process look like?
Most processes begin with a recruiter screen, followed by a technical phone interview covering cloud fundamentals, networking, and systems design. A take-home or live infrastructure design exercise is common at the senior level, asking you to architect a system given specific constraints. Later rounds typically include a deep-dive into past projects, a behavioral interview with leadership, and occasionally a live troubleshooting or incident simulation.
Where can I find and apply to senior cloud infrastructure engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to senior cloud infrastructure engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and cloud platform focus, then apply directly to each listing.
