- Build and maintain infrastructure that supports a polyglot data platform (relational, graph, document, and object storage services), including environment sizing and scaling patterns.
- Implement infrastructure as code (Terraform) for repeatable, auditable provisioning across dev/test/prod environments.
- Own network and connectivity design and operations (VPC/VNet configuration, subnets, routing, security groups/NACLs, private connectivity patterns, DNS).
- Partner with data engineering and platform teams to ensure database services are performant, highly available, and recoverable (backup/restore, replication, and DR patterns).
- Support Kubernetes infrastructure needs (cluster foundations, node groups, storage classes, ingress/egress patterns) in coordination with the platform team.
- Implement and maintain IL5-aligned infrastructure controls and evidence (configuration baselines, hardening, vulnerability remediation, and continuous compliance tooling).
- Establish operational readiness: monitoring/alerting for infrastructure components, runbooks, capacity planning inputs, and incident support.
- Clearance: Must maintain a Top Secret security clearance
- Bachelor's Degree and 8 to 10 years of experience; Master's Degree and 6 to 8 years of experience; (in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 6 additional years of relevant experience)
- 5+ years of cloud infrastructure engineering experience, including delivery and operations in a government cloud environment
- Demonstrated experience provisioning and operating multi-service infrastructure that supports multiple database paradigms (relational, graph, document, and object storage)
- Strong infrastructure as code skills (Terraform) and configuration management discipline
- Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud or Azure Government, including secure networking patterns
- Solid Kubernetes foundation knowledge (infrastructure integration, storage/networking support, and cluster-adjacent services)
- Experience working in compliance-driven environments, including IL5 requirements and associated compliance tooling/practices
- IC/DoD experience
- AWS GovCloud or Azure Government
- Terraform
- Kubernetes
- Networking/VPC configuration (routing, segmentation, connectivity)

Tips for Your Remote Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote senior cloud infrastructure engineer openings from across the U.S. in one place. Search by role and apply directly to the ones that match your stack and experience level before competition builds.
Demonstrate async fluency in your materials
Remote infrastructure teams communicate decisions through written RFCs, runbooks, and incident postmortems. Reference specific documents you've authored or collaborated on asynchronously, because remote hiring managers screen for written clarity before any interview.
Surface your infrastructure in public repositories
Build Terraform modules, Kubernetes manifests, or CI/CD pipeline configurations in public GitHub repositories. Remote employers for senior roles want to verify your engineering judgment independently, and a working infrastructure codebase does that before a call is scheduled.
Prepare for system design in async interview formats
Many distributed engineering teams run take-home architecture exercises instead of live whiteboard sessions. Practice writing clear, structured design documents for scenarios involving reliability, cost optimization, and multi-region failover so your reasoning reads well without verbal explanation.
Remote Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote senior cloud infrastructure engineer job?
Target remote-first companies and distributed engineering teams in SaaS, fintech, and cloud infrastructure services, where senior roles operate without on-site oversight. Remote employers screen for proven autonomy, strong written communication across async channels, and deep hands-on fluency with platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP. Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or Google Professional Cloud Architect, combined with a portfolio of live infrastructure work, give candidates a clear edge.
Which companies hire remote senior cloud infrastructure engineers?
Companies hiring remote senior cloud infrastructure engineers right now include CVS Health, HELIX, and IPG, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote-first firms, cloud-native SaaS companies, and distributed engineering teams in fintech, cybersecurity, and enterprise software consistently hire for this role across the U.S.
Can you get a remote senior cloud infrastructure engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but remote senior roles are intentionally difficult to land without a professional foundation, because you'll need to operate independently from day one with minimal in-person support. Remote-first startups and cloud consulting firms occasionally hire junior engineers remotely. Candidates who build public infrastructure projects on GitHub, earn cloud certifications, and contribute to open-source infrastructure tooling can demonstrate capability before formal employment history exists.
Do you need a degree for remote senior cloud infrastructure engineer jobs?
Not always. Remote employers in this discipline weigh cloud certifications, hands-on infrastructure experience, and demonstrable results, such as production systems you've designed, optimized, or secured, often as heavily as a formal degree. A degree in computer science or a related field can open initial screening, but senior-level remote roles are largely skills-verified, and a strong GitHub presence or verifiable infrastructure portfolio carries real weight.
Which industries hire the most remote senior cloud infrastructure engineers?
The sectors hiring the most remote senior cloud infrastructure engineers are Technology & Software, Insurance, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These industries rely on globally distributed engineering teams that depend on senior cloud infrastructure expertise to maintain uptime, security, and scalability without a centralized physical footprint.
