- Experience working in regulated, high-availability, or client-segmented environments.
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Terraform Associate, Ansible-related certifications, or equivalent.
What Great Looks Like
The right person for this role is not just a script writer. They are an infrastructure engineer who can assess a manual process, define a durable technical pattern, implement it safely in code, and leave behind something that is testable, supportable, and scalable. They are comfortable operating across cloud platforms, infrastructure pipelines, virtualization, operating systems, networking, security controls, and server lifecycle automation. They care about long-term maintainability as much as initial delivery.
The salary range for this role is $130,000-165,000, depending on relevant experience.

Tips for Your Infrastructure Automation Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to IaC toolchains
Hiring managers scan for specific tools like Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, or CloudFormation before reading anything else. List the tools you've used alongside the cloud providers they targeted, so your resume clears the initial screen without ambiguity.
Quantify pipeline improvements you delivered
Vague bullets like 'improved deployment speed' don't stand out. Describe the before and after in concrete terms, such as reducing deployment time from hours to minutes or cutting failed builds by a measurable amount, using the actual metrics from your work.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists infrastructure automation engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by tech stack alignment
Job postings for this role vary enormously by stack. Before applying, check whether the team runs Kubernetes or ECS, uses GitOps or traditional CI, and favors AWS, GCP, or Azure. Applying to roles that match your hands-on experience increases your callback rate significantly.
Prepare a live demo or public repository
Many hiring panels for infrastructure automation roles ask for working examples, not just descriptions. A public repo showing a real IaC module, a pipeline you built, or a monitoring setup you configured is far more persuasive than a resume line alone.
Negotiate around on-call scope and tooling budget
Infrastructure automation engineers often inherit legacy systems with undefined on-call expectations. Ask directly about on-call rotation frequency, incident ownership, and whether the team has budget for tooling upgrades before accepting an offer.
