ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Center Infrastructure Installation Technician / Lead
Columbus, OH. Onsite daily
3-months project
LOCATION
5 days onsite in Columbus OH
Pay
$35 to 40/hr
Below are the requirements:
- Installation of 670x B300 servers, power cords, and accessories
- Installation of 500+ Network gear, power cords, and accessories
- Installation of 792 in rack PDU's
- Installation of 12,000 XDR SMF cables in overhead basket tray. (All 12,000 XDR SMF will be pre bundled at integration center.)
- Installation of 13,000+ ethernet fibers cables in overhead basket tray
- Installation of 24k+ optics in switches
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Infrastructure Installation Technician / Lead to support large-scale deployment activities within a high-density data center environment. This role is responsible for the physical installation, cabling, and integration of servers, network equipment, PDUs, optics, and structured fiber infrastructure while maintaining strict quality, safety, and operational standards. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with hyperscale or enterprise data center deployments, rack integration, structured cabling, and large-volume infrastructure installations.
Key Responsibilities
Server & Hardware Installation
- Install and rack approximately 670 B300 servers, including associated rails, power cords, and accessories.
- Perform hardware mounting, cable routing, labeling, and verification according to engineering standards.
- Ensure proper rack elevation placement, airflow management, and cable organization.
Network Equipment Deployment
- Install and secure 500+ network devices, including switches and associated hardware.
- Install power connections, management cabling, and supporting accessories.
- Verify hardware installation against rack elevation diagrams and deployment documentation.
Power Infrastructure Installation
- Install 792 in-rack PDUs across multiple cabinets and rows.
- Route and secure power cabling in compliance with data center standards and safety requirements.
- Assist with power balancing, labeling, and infrastructure verification.
Fiber & Structured Cabling
- Install approximately 12,000 pre-bundled XDR SMF cables in overhead basket tray systems.
- Install and route 13,000+ Ethernet and fiber optic cables throughout the data center environment.
- Maintain cable separation, bend radius compliance, and pathway standards.
- Label, dress, secure, and document all cable installations according to project specifications.
Optics Installation & Validation
- Install 24,000+ optical transceivers into network switches and associated equipment.
- Inspect and clean fiber connections using approved fiber handling procedures.
- Verify optics installation and connectivity integrity.
Quality & Documentation
- Follow detailed installation procedures, engineering drawings, rack elevations, and cable matrices.
- Perform quality assurance checks and remediation as required.
- Maintain accurate deployment records, labeling, and installation documentation.
- Adhere to all site safety, ESD, and operational procedures.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in data center infrastructure installation or structured cabling environments.
- Experience with large-scale server and network deployments.
- Strong understanding of:
- Fiber optic installation and handling
- Structured cabling standards
- Rack and stack procedures
- Power distribution systems
- Cable management best practices
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Rack elevation diagrams
- Floor layouts
- Cabling matrices
- Installation work packages
- Familiarity with optical transceivers, SMF infrastructure, and Ethernet cabling.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume deployment environments.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in hyperscale or enterprise data center environments.
- BICSI or structured cabling certifications preferred.
- Experience with fiber testing, labeling standards, and DCIM systems.
- OSHA 10/30 certification preferred.
- Experience leading installation teams or coordinating deployment activities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined rack spaces for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in active data center environments.
