Mid Level Network Security Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level network security engineer job?
Position your existing experience around ownership and impact, not just task completion. Highlight specific projects where you led the work, such as deploying a firewall policy overhaul or owning an incident response from detection to remediation. Certifications like CISSP, CEH, or CompTIA Security+ strengthen your application, and demonstrating familiarity with cloud security environments and SIEM tools helps you stand out at this level.
Which companies hire mid level network security engineers?
Companies hiring mid level network security engineers right now include GEICO, Deloitte, and Collabera, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of organizations, including financial institutions, defense contractors, healthcare systems, and large technology firms that maintain complex internal networks requiring dedicated security ownership.
Are there remote mid level network security engineer jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and security clearance requirements. About 23% of mid level network security engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote roles more common in cloud-focused or consulting environments and on-site roles more prevalent in government, defense, and regulated industries where sensitive infrastructure access is involved.
How do I move up to a mid level network security engineer role?
Moving from entry level to mid level means building a record of project ownership, not just task execution. Focus on deepening expertise in one or two domains, such as network threat detection, vulnerability management, or zero-trust architecture. Completing an advanced certification, taking on incident response responsibilities, and demonstrating measurable outcomes, like reducing mean time to detection, signals readiness for mid level work to hiring managers.
Which industries hire the most mid level network security engineers?
Mid Level network security engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Insurance, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they operate large, regulated, or high-value networks where experienced engineers who can act independently on security architecture and threat response are in consistent demand.
