Product Software Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product software engineer in Texas?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline is the standard entry point for product software engineer roles in Texas. The state does not require a government-issued license to work as a software engineer, so hiring decisions focus on demonstrated skills and education. Building a project portfolio, contributing to open-source work, or completing a recognized coding program at a Texas university or community college strengthens candidacy considerably.
How much do product software engineers make in Texas?
Product software engineers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire product software engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring product software engineers in Texas right now include Speechify, ORUM, and Topaz Labs, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of semiconductor manufacturers, enterprise software companies, and defense contractors means demand is distributed across both legacy tech giants and fast-growing product startups in the Austin and Dallas corridors.
Which Texas cities have the most product software engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Frisco have the most product software engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense startup and big-tech campus ecosystem drives the highest volume, while Dallas attracts enterprise software and fintech employers, and Houston's energy and aerospace industries generate consistent demand for engineers building product-facing systems and embedded tooling.
Are there remote product software engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 64% of product software engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how thoroughly software development has shifted toward distributed teams. The work most likely to remain fully remote is product feature development, front-end engineering, and API work, while roles requiring hardware integration or on-site lab access tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a product software engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an associate or new-graduate software engineer program at a large Texas employer, with Dell Technologies, National Instruments, and Lockheed Martin running structured rotational programs for candidates without professional experience. Adjacent roles such as QA engineer, technical support engineer, or data analyst at Texas product companies frequently transition into engineering tracks. A portfolio of shipped side projects or open-source contributions, combined with a degree from a Texas university or a well-regarded coding bootcamp, is what moves entry-level applicants past screening.
Where can I find and apply to product software engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to product software engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers and locations. Find roles that fit your experience and target city and apply directly from each listing.
