Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of External Sales, the Regional Sales Manager leads sales and retention activities of sales staff for all product lines within designated region. The position supports planning and achieving expected growth objectives and contributes to the development of sales and retention strategies for new and existing product offerings.

What you’ll do
- Execute sales strategies to meet enrollment, revenue, and retention goals within assigned region.
- Provide consultative benefits support to prospective and existing group clients.
- Resolve complex issues related to group accounts, provider relationships, and benefits administration.
- Facilitate staff development and continuing education regarding product knowledge and sales acumen.
- Manage appropriate staffing levels and recruit and train top producing sales staff.
- Observe and evaluate sales representatives to identify growth and coaching opportunities.
- Monitor and review weekly reporting of sales staff output and production.
- Conduct reporting/strategy sessions with sales staff.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, consultants, and group decision-makers.
- Oversee and control allocated budgets.
- Actively participate in professional organizations and represent the company at community events.
- Monitor the external environment in relation to industry competitive practices, networks, alliances, and other delivery systems.
What you need
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong human relation skills, including the ability to motivate people.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required, including the ability to understand and communicate complex concepts and develop sound financial business cases.
- Strong understanding of organizational procedures, structure, job practices, rating practices, operating policies, and benefit structures required.
- Thorough knowledge of approved sales techniques and proficiency in sales systems and business tools required.
- Working knowledge of hospital, medical economics and practices required.
- Thorough knowledge of all product lines, contracts, related operating policies and rating practices of the corporation and its subsidiaries required.
- Thorough understanding of corporate goals and objectives and the effect they have on the sales division required.
- Working knowledge of federal and state mandated laws, alternate funding arrangements, rating practices and retention formulas required.
- Maintain knowledge of market trends and regulatory updates.
- Ability to effectively execute sales strategies and communicate value propositions.
- Strong knowledge of health insurance regulations, products, and funding mechanisms.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and time management/prioritization skills.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or higher preferred with emphasis in business administration, health care, finance or economics.
- Minimum two years’ experience in managing large and complex group health accounts required. Other self-funded benefit sales and sales management or health care delivery systems and Blue Plan background preferred.
- Minimum five years’ direct sales and retention experience in a competitive environment required.
- Minimum two years' leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Required to obtain and maintain a license issued by the State of Kansas for Health, Accident and Life Insurance.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that qualifies for the company automobile insurance.
- Required to sign a non-compete agreement.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 75% of the time; flexible availability required (including early mornings/evenings).
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or while attending meetings.
- Ability to look at a computer screen for prolonged periods.
- Occasional walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, or reach.
Compensation
$160,640 – $200,800 annually
Exempt Grade 20

The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
