Tips for Your Remote Equity Trader Job Search
Quantify your P&L and execution metrics
Hiring managers at trading firms want numbers, not narratives. List your average daily volume handled, Sharpe ratios you contributed to, or slippage improvements you drove. Generic phrases like 'managed equity portfolios' get passed over without hard figures behind them.
Tailor applications to desk type
A prop-firm posting and an asset-manager posting expect completely different things. Prop desks weight risk tolerance and speed under pressure. Buy-side roles emphasize fundamental research integration. Read each job description closely and reframe your experience to match the specific desk's mandate.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists equity trader openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Earn your Series 57 before applying
Most equity trader roles at registered broker-dealers require a Series 57 license. If you're between jobs or transitioning into trading, passing the exam before you apply removes a common screening filter and signals you're ready to sit at a live desk from day one.
Prepare for a live trading simulation
Most firms beyond entry level run a market simulation or case-study round before the final interview. Practice reading Level II quotes, articulating order-routing logic, and defending position sizing decisions out loud. Stumbling on execution mechanics in a timed environment ends candidacies quickly.
Negotiate desk assignment, not just salary
At larger banks and funds, the desk you start on shapes your career trajectory. During the offer stage, ask directly which strategies the desk runs, what your rotation options are, and whether lateral moves to other books are common. Getting assigned to a shrinking desk matters as much as the offer itself.
Remote Equity Trader Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote equity trader job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote equity trader employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote equity traders?
Companies hiring remote equity traders include Ryder System, Alvarez & Marsal, and Jobot, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote equity trader roles.
Can you get a remote equity trader job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote equity trader openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote equity trader jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote equity traders on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote equity trader roles.
Which industries hire the most remote equity traders?
Most remote equity trader openings sit in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Investment & Asset Management, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire equity traders remotely most consistently.
