INTRODUCTION
EverQuote, Inc. is looking for a seasoned Senior Counsel to join our in-house legal team. This is a dual-focus role: you will manage active litigation matters and build/maintain a best-in-class marketing compliance program. You will serve as a trusted advisor to our marketing, sales, and product teams while directing outside litigation counsel on complex disputes.
This is a hybrid role requiring being in office several days a week.
The base salary range for this full-time hybrid position is $195,000-215,000. Starting salaries will generally be in the lower part of the salary range provided. Employees, depending on their specific role, level and responsibilities, may be eligible to participate in company variable compensation or equity programs.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Litigation
- Oversee and direct outside counsel on class actions, regulatory investigations, and related commercial disputes
- Develop litigation strategy, review filings, manage discovery, and attend key hearings as needed
- Manage litigation budgets and outside counsel relationships with a focus on cost efficiency
- Maintain accurate reporting on case status, risk exposure, and reserves
Marketing Compliance
- Own and continuously improve the company's marketing compliance program, including TCPA, CAN-SPAM and FCC compliance
- Monitor regulatory developments (FCC, FTC, state AGs) and update policies proactively
- Conduct compliance reviews and risk assessments of new and existing marketing campaigns
- Develop and deliver training to internal stakeholders
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience, with meaningful time in consumer protection law
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-party litigation with outside counsel
- Deep familiarity with TCPA, CAN-SPAM, FCC regulations, and state-level consumer protection statutes
- Experience advising on digital and direct marketing compliance
- Strong judgment — ability to give clear, practical guidance under regulatory uncertainty
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership
- Team attitude and willingness to assist with other legal team members as needed even if outside core focus (e.g. help cover/support contract review, employment matters, compliance, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with insurance regulatory environment
- Prior in-house experience, especially at a company with a large consumer marketing operation
- Familiarity with consent management platforms or marketing automation tools
- Experience with state privacy laws (CCPA, etc.) as they intersect with marketing
