Mission Summary:
As the Senior Manager of Commercial Development, you are the engine driving our 0-to-3-year commercial execution roadmap. You are the critical link between our autonomous vehicle (AV) technology and the market, responsible for turning early-stage deployments into scalable, profitable services. Grounded in operational reality, your mandate is twofold: flawlessly execute market entry and actively harvest insights from real-world deployments to translate market needs back to our product and development teams. You ensure our near-term commercial growth is directly fueled by an exceptional, customer-obsessed AV experience.
What you'll be doing:
1. Near-Term Commercial Execution (1–3 Year Horizon)
- Go-to-Market (GTM) Product Execution: Drive the operational rollout for new AV markets, segments, and service over the next 12 to 36 months, transitioning programs from pilot phases to active fleet scale.
- Commercial Modeling & Path to Profitability: Build, test, and iterate commercial models based on ground-truth deployment data. Focus relentlessly on improving unit economics, ridership/utilization rates, and customer acquisition costs.
- Growth Translation: Actively monitor the market to identify our next immediate commercial opportunities, ensuring our 1-3 year execution targets ladder up to the broader corporate milestones set by the corporate strategy. Analyze market signals to identify the next commercial opportunities, working closely with the CEO, CoS, CSO and to ensure short-term commercial goals align with long-term corporate strategy for AV product and commercial growth.
- Commercial Product Readiness: Work cross functionally to establish a clear point-of-view of Motional's robotaxi product, working closely with product leaders, the Executive Leadership team and technical program leaders to support commercial growth through feedback and product development while influencing our 3+ years strategy.
2. Deployment Insights & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Insight Harvesting: Act as the primary feedback loop from the street to the studio. Gather qualitative and quantitative data from active AV deployments to understand operational friction and user pain points.
- Requirement Translation: Translate these real-world commercial and customer insights into clear, prioritized development needs for Product and Engineering teams, ensuring our technology roadmap directly supports commercial growth.
- Program Coordination: Partner tightly with Program Management, Corporate Strategy and Technical Program teams to ensure commercial market readiness perfectly aligns with engineering delivery timelines and software/hardware updates over the next 3 years.
3. Operational Scaling & Customer Obsession
- Deployment Operations: Bridge the gap between commercial planning and the street. Lead cross-functional launch task forces (Operations, Fleet Management, Marketing, Legal) to successfully deploy new commercial services.
- Targeted Strategic Initiatives: Lead high impact, short-to-medium term projects and strategy frameworks that improve commercial success of the Motional service.
- Playbook Creation: Develop highly repeatable, scalable commercial playbooks that allow the organization to launch in new cities or integrate with new partners faster and more efficiently.
- Value Proposition Design: Translate deeply technical AV capabilities into clear, compelling commercial value propositions for both B2B partners and B2C end-users.
- Experience Auditing: Act as the relentless advocate for the end-user. Ensure the AV experience—from app engagement to the ride itself to customer support—is safe, intuitive, and commercially viable.
- Adjacent Support: Understanding and building tools for commercial success (customer feedback, community feedback, process improvements, alignments, feedbacks a loop).
What we're looking for:
- Experience: 5+ years in commercial operations, strategy, GTM execution or product development, or growth roles—ideally within autonomous vehicles, mobility, deep tech, or scaling complex hardware/software ecosystems.
- Mindset: Deeply customer-obsessed and execution-oriented; you view technology as a vehicle to deliver an unparalleled human experience and drive measurable revenue.
- Skillset: Highly analytical with the ability to build financial and commercial models, combined with the operational grit to get your hands dirty in actual deployment execution.
- Translation Ability: Exceptional capability to operate fluidly between deeply technical engineering teams and high-level commercial partners, translating market needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
- Execution Focus: A proven track record of managing 1-to-3-year roadmaps, anticipating operational bottlenecks, and proactively implementing solutions to keep growth on track.
- Travel up to 40%.
This role is based in our Boston, Pittsburgh, or Las Vegas office and requires in-office days each week.

Senior Product Development Manager Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior product development manager job in Boston?
Focus your search on Boston's medtech and life sciences corridor stretching from the Seaport into Cambridge, plus the enterprise software and fintech firms anchored in the Back Bay and Financial District. Candidates with cross-functional leadership experience, FDA regulatory familiarity for device or pharma roles, or agile delivery credentials stand out locally. Networking through MassMedic and the Boston Product Management Association also opens doors that job boards alone won't.
Which companies hire senior product development managers in Boston?
Employers hiring senior product development managers in Boston right now include Amazon, Amazon Web Services, and Whoop, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's employer mix skews heavily toward medical device manufacturers, biopharma firms, and growth-stage tech companies, making it one of the more specialized senior product development markets in the country.
Are there remote senior product development manager jobs in Boston?
Yes, though availability varies: purely desk-based and software-focused roles tend to be more remote-friendly, while positions tied to physical product development, lab collaboration, or hardware iteration are typically on-site. About 14% of senior product development manager openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Within Boston, hybrid arrangements are most common among enterprise software and fintech employers in the Seaport and Back Bay.
How can I get a senior product development manager job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is moving laterally from a product associate, project manager, or R&D coordinator role at a medtech startup or mid-size software company in the Seaport or Cambridge. Many Boston-area employers promote from within or hire junior candidates who can demonstrate ownership of a product feature end to end. Building familiarity with stage-gate development processes and pursuing a PMP or AIPMM certification makes a measurable difference in a market that prizes structured methodology.
Which industries hire the most senior product development managers in Boston?
Boston senior product development manager roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Retail, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's density of teaching hospitals, biopharma campuses, and venture-backed hardware startups drives outsized demand relative to most U.S. cities, making it a particularly strong market for candidates with regulated-product or deep-tech backgrounds.
