Field Service Engineer – Chicago, IL

About the Role

Schmoll America services and supports high-precision PCB drilling, routing, laser, imaging, and X-Ray equipment used in electronics manufacturing across North America. Our customers depend on their machines running — and they depend on us to make that happen.

We're looking for a Field Service Engineer based in the Chicago area who takes pride in solving tough problems, builds real relationships with customers, and wants to grow alongside a tight-knit team. You'll be on the road 80–90% of the time, working with customers across North America and occasionally traveling to our parent company in Germany.

What You'll Do

• Install and commission new Schmoll equipment at customer sites
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
• Provide clear, professional support and communication to customers throughout every visit
• Collaborate with the Schmoll sales and service teams
• Document service activities and keep accurate records
• Stay current on product updates and technical developments

What We're Looking For

One of the following:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in machine installation and maintenance
• 4-year engineering degree

Plus:

• Electro-mechanical experience or aptitude (preferred, not required — we'll train the right person)
• Attention to detail and the ability to stay focused under pressure
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working independently as well as coordinating with a team
• Valid driver's license and passport
• Lives within a reasonable distance of ORD International Airport

The Schmoll product line includes CNC drilling and routing machines, UV and CO₂ laser systems, direct imaging, and X-Ray equipment — all engineered for the tight tolerances and high throughput demands of PCB and electronics manufacturing.
