Job Summary:
Plans, organizes, and supervises social work staff in an assigned area to provide social work services that enhance, protect, or restore individuals’ capacity for social functioning, whether impaired by physical, environmental, or emotional factors. Ensures continuity and effectiveness of services in accordance with hospital and departmental policies, as well as federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
Education & Experience
Education and Experience Required:
Master's Degree or higher in Social Work (MSW) and three (3) years of experience in social work.
Certifications, Licenses, or Registration required:
Licensed Master Social Worker from the MS State Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; psychosocial methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and effective disorders. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions and for counseling and guidance. Knowledge of available community resources. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to gather, record, and analyze data. Ability to assist individuals in recognizing and solving problems. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply regulations and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to train, motivate, and supervise employees.
Responsibilities
- Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinate staff; supervises employees, including scheduling, work allocation, training, evaluation, and problem resolution.
- Develops controls to accomplish work within the framework of established laws, policies, procedures, and priorities; provides consultation and direction in case study, assessment, and treatment planning.
- Assesses subordinates’ development, learning patterns, and performance; assists staff in improving social work skills.
- Evaluates clients for program eligibility; supervises plan of care interventions, including resource and referral assistance, crisis intervention, prevention, education, patient advocacy, bereavement support, therapy, and counseling, as appropriate.
- Liaises with other departments, agencies, and organizations; collaborates in the development of community resources and services.
- Supervises and participates in performance improvement initiatives, including data collection and analysis, continuing education programs, policy and procedure development and implementation, and committee participation.
- Prepares and maintains applicable reports and records.

Requires occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
