Software Support Specialist Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software support specialist in South Dakota?
Most South Dakota employers expect at least an associate degree in information technology or a closely related field, though a bachelor's degree improves your options with larger employers like Sanford Health or state agencies. There is no state-issued license required for this role in South Dakota. CompTIA A+ or CompTIA ITF+ certifications are widely recognized by South Dakota hiring managers as a practical substitute for experience at the entry level.
Which companies hire software support specialists in South Dakota?
Employers hiring software support specialists in South Dakota right now include US Department of Veterans Affairs, CNH Industrial, and CVS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Sioux Falls-based financial services and healthcare institutions are among the most consistent sources of openings given the concentration of corporate and regional operations headquartered there.
Which South Dakota cities have the most software support specialist jobs?
Sioux Falls, Brookings, and Rapid City account for the largest share of software support specialist openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads because of its dense cluster of financial services firms, regional healthcare systems, and technology employers, while Rapid City and Pierre generate steady demand through healthcare networks and state government IT departments that require ongoing application and systems support.
Are there remote software support specialist jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, and software support is more remote-friendly than most technical roles because the work centers on diagnostics, documentation, and user communication rather than on-site hardware. About 42% of software support specialist openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Tier-two application support and SaaS platform support roles are the most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a software support specialist in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a help desk or IT support technician role, which South Dakota employers like Sanford Health and state government agencies use as a starting point for candidates without direct software support experience. A CompTIA A+ certification combined with any coursework from South Dakota State University or Dakota State University signals readiness to hiring managers. Lateral moves from customer service roles at technology-adjacent companies also translate well into software support positions.
Where can I find and apply to software support specialist jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to software support specialist jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and location preference, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
