Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Speech Pathologist at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for patient evaluation and treatment planning, supervision of interns, and maintaining productivity levels. The Speech Pathologist must also exhibit effective leadership skills, coordination with other therapy disciplines, and adherence to regulations while demonstrating problem-solving abilities and ensuring patient satisfaction through skillful clinical decisions.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervisory: Supervises student interns.
- Clinical:
- Maintains productivity level at department target.
- Evaluates and establishes treatment plan for any patient referred to Speech Pathology.
- Clinically competent in assessment, treatment, and use of equipment as appropriate specific to clinical area.
- Attends and provides continuing education in-servicing.
- Serves as mentor for new employee(s) or volunteers.
- Serves as clinical instructor after one year of experience as a clinician.
- Completes documentation according to all regulations and in a timely manner.
- To meet patient care needs you may be required to cover other areas of rehab within the limits.
- Must be able to demonstrate unique knowledge and skills necessary to provide speech therapy services for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Budget:
- Remains within monthly budget when ordering equipment and supplies.
- Charges patients appropriately and in a timely manner for treatment and equipment.
- Other: Must be competent in use of computer for documentation and charging purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Master's Degree: Must have at least a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology Required
Licenses and Certifications
- SP-L - Licensed Speech Pathologist: Must hold a state license based on facility location Upon Hire Required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation: Current BLS CPR certification Upon Hire Required
- Certificate of Clinical Competence-Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) within 1 Year Required
Work Experience
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Must demonstrate competency in assessment and treatment of the following areas where applicable: Neonates/Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics Selection Required N/A
- Leadership: Selection Required N/A
- Must plan, organize, and implement patient treatment Selection Required N/A
- Must coordinate patient treatment schedule with PT’s, PTA’s, OT’s, COTA’s, SLP’s, and Rehab Technicians Selection Required N/A
- Must participate in PI projects, committees and teams and report as appropriate Selection Required N/A
- Establish and revise new and existing treatment protocols, policies and procedures Selection Required N/A
- Human Relations Skills: Selection Required N/A
- Incumbent must interact with team members, physicians, nursing personnel, social workers, payors, case managers, and other medical staff in person, by phone, and written correspondence Selection Required N/A
