Mid Level Structural Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level structural designer job?
Position yourself around project ownership rather than task completion. Highlight work where you led a structural system from schematic through construction documents, coordinated with other disciplines, and resolved design challenges independently. Strong applications show proficiency in current analysis and detailing software, familiarity with relevant building codes, and at least one project you can speak to in depth from start to finish.
Which companies hire mid level structural designers?
Companies hiring mid level structural designers right now include Kiewit, Stantec, and Kiewit Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of mid-size structural and multidiscipline engineering firms, large infrastructure consultancies, and in-house design teams at developers and general contractors.
Are there remote mid level structural designer jobs?
Yes, though fully remote roles are less common in this field than in software. About 38% of mid level structural designer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements being more typical given coordination requirements with project teams, site visits, and client meetings that benefit from in-person presence.
How do I move up to a mid level structural designer role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built on progressively deeper ownership. Early-career designers grow by moving from drafting and detailing under supervision to independently developing structural systems, running load calculations, and managing client-facing deliverables. Demonstrating measurable impact on a project, earning a professional engineering license or progress toward one, and mentoring newer team members each signal readiness for mid level responsibility.
Which industries hire the most mid level structural designers?
Mid Level structural designer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive consistent demand because they require complex structural analysis, code-compliant documentation, and coordination across large project teams where mid level designers carry meaningful day-to-day responsibility.
