INTRODUCTION
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Intermediate Substation Electrical (Physical) Engineer for our Chicago, IL office. Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Buffalo Substation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.
This Opportunity
The Intermediate Professional Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with WSP's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain WSP's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.

Your Impact
- Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to: One-line diagrams, Schematics, Wiring diagrams, Station physical layouts, Sections/Elevations, Cable and conduit plans and details, Ground grid design and details, Control enclosure design and details, Lightning protection plans, Yard lighting plans, Bills of Materials, Power system studies, Site visits
- Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
- Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
- Complete training on assigned tasks
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience
- BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or higher degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option
- Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on
- Candidates should enjoy living in the Chicago area or have a desire and ability to relocate
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations
- 1+ years of relevant electrical engineering work experience
- Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design
- Engineering In Training certification

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $67,600 - $111,650
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
