Manufacturing Engineer / CNC Programmer
Rochester, NH | Full-Time | First ShiftPosition Overview
Manchester Machine is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer / CNC Programmer to join our growing precision manufacturing team in Rochester, New Hampshire.
This is not a traditional programming position. We are looking for an individual who can own the manufacturing process from concept through production. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing machining strategies, programming complex CNC equipment, designing work holding solutions, establishing manufacturing standards, and driving continuous improvement throughout the facility.
As a key member of our engineering team, you will work directly with leadership, machinists, quality personnel, and customers to transform complex designs into repeatable, profitable manufacturing processes. This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to directly influence productivity, quality, safety, and future growth initiatives.

Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing Process Development
- Develop complete manufacturing strategies for new and existing products.
- Create efficient, repeatable, and scalable machining processes focused on quality, throughput, and profitability.
- Establish process standards and documentation to support consistent execution across all production activities.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for quality and manufacturing issues.
CNC Programming
- Program, optimize, and maintain CNC programs using Mastercam.
- Support multi-axis lathes, mill-turn centers, and advanced milling equipment.
- Reduce cycle times, improve tool life, and enhance process reliability through continuous optimization.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming challenges on the shop floor.
Fixture & Tooling Design
- Design custom fixtures, workholding solutions, and manufacturing tooling using SolidWorks.
- Evaluate and implement new tooling technologies to improve productivity and process capability.
- Support capital equipment and tooling investments through ROI analysis and recommendations.
Manufacturing Documentation
- Develop and maintain:
- Setup sheets
- Work instructions
- Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Process flow diagrams
- PFMEAs
- Control plans
- Inspection documentation
- Ensure manufacturing documentation remains accurate, standardized, and controlled.
Engineering & Quoting Support
- Review customer drawings, CAD models, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations.
- Develop cycle time estimates and manufacturing plans to support quoting activities.
- Assist leadership in evaluating new business opportunities and production capabilities.
ERP & Production Systems
- Develop and maintain routings, labor standards, process flows, and manufacturing data within the ERP system.
- Support the implementation of best practices for production planning and manufacturing execution.
- Drive data accuracy and process discipline throughout the organization.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead projects focused on:
- Productivity improvement
- Scrap reduction
- Quality enhancement
- Safety improvements
- Setup reduction
- Capacity expansion
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate waste and improve operational performance.
- Partner with production teams to establish measurable improvements tied to business objectives.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate closely with production, quality, engineering, purchasing, and management teams.
- Train and mentor machinists on manufacturing processes, tooling strategies, and best practices.
- Support daily operations to ensure production goals, quality standards, and key performance indicators are achieved.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3 years of CNC programming experience using CAM software.
- Strong understanding of machining fundamentals including tooling, work holding, feeds, speeds, and process optimization.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and complex customer specifications.
- Proficiency with CAD software for fixture and tooling design.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Self-motivated, accountable, and capable of managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- Extensive experience with multi-axis lathes, mill-turn equipment, and complex turning operations.
- Advanced proficiency in Mastercam.
- Experience using SolidWorks for fixture and tooling design.
- Experience with ERP systems, routing development, and manufacturing data management.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred, though equivalent hands-on experience is highly valued.
Compensation & BenefitsCompensation
$90,000 + annually, based on experience, capability, and demonstrated performance.
