Align your credentials to U.S. CPA standards
Canadian CPA designations are well recognized, but you'll need to show your accounting degree meets the TN visa Accountant category's specialty requirement. Request a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved body before applying.
Target manufacturers and distributors with internal accounting teams
Cost Accounting Managers are most concentrated in manufacturing, distribution, and consumer goods companies. These employers routinely sponsor work visas and are far more likely to be experienced with visa sponsorship processes already in place.
Search TN-specific roles using Migrate Mate
Generic job boards surface roles regardless of sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate filters specifically for employers open to TN visa sponsorship, so your search starts with Cost Accounting Manager roles where the conversation is already viable.
Clarify employer visa experience before accepting an offer
Your TN status ties to the specific employer and worksite presented at the port of entry or consulate. If the role involves overseeing plants in multiple states, confirm with your prospective employer that your work authorization covers all locations before you sign an offer letter.
Prepare for port-of-entry review as a Canadian national
Canadian citizens apply for TN status directly at a U.S. land border or airport. Bring your offer letter, degree transcripts, and a concise job duties letter. CBP officers have adjudication authority on the spot, so documentation clarity matters.
Understand the TN renewal cycle for long-term roles
TN status is granted in three-year increments with unlimited renewals, but each renewal requires a current offer and active employment. If your employer restructures or eliminates the cost accounting function, your status window is limited to the grace period.
Cost Accounting Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cost Accounting Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the role is filled by someone with a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. The TN Accountant category covers professional accounting functions, and cost accounting management falls within that scope. If the position requires an MBA only, with no underlying accounting degree, the qualification argument becomes harder to support at the port of entry.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for Cost Accounting Manager positions?
The TN visa has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadian nationals, and can be obtained the same day at a port of entry. The H-1B visa requires a lottery selection, a multi-month USCIS filing process, and an October 1 start date. For Canadian and Mexican Cost Accounting Managers, TN is almost always the faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Where can I find Cost Accounting Manager jobs where employers are already open to TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. Rather than applying broadly and discovering a sponsorship barrier late in the process, Migrate Mate surfaces Cost Accounting Manager roles where employers have indicated openness to TN visa candidates, which cuts down the time spent on dead-end applications.
Do I need a CPA license to qualify for TN status as a Cost Accounting Manager?
No. The TN Accountant category requires a degree in accounting or a related field, not an active CPA license. That said, many U.S. employers in manufacturing and finance prefer or require CPA or CMA credentials for management-level cost accounting roles, so licensure affects hiring, not TN eligibility itself.
What happens to my TN status if my employer eliminates the Cost Accounting Manager position?
Your TN status is employer-specific, so termination ends your authorized work status. USCIS provides a 60-day grace period, during which you can secure a new offer and file for TN status with a different employer. Acting quickly matters, as the 60-day window cannot be extended and begins the day your employment ends.
