Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Head Of Finance
Verify your CPA designation transfers correctly
TN eligibility for finance roles hinges on credential match. A Canadian CPA or Mexican CP designation is accepted, but confirm your provincial or national body's equivalency documentation is current before any employer files on your behalf.
Target companies with existing cross-border finance structures
Multinationals and private equity-backed firms operating in both the U.S. and Canada or Mexico are familiar with TN sponsorship for senior finance hires. Their legal teams have processed these petitions before and won't need educating on the category.
Separate your CFO track from your Head of Finance pitch
CBP officers scrutinize whether a 'Head of Finance' role genuinely requires the Accountant TN category versus being a general management position. Your offer letter must emphasize analytical and accounting duties, not just team oversight or P&L ownership.
Use Migrate Mate to find roles at visa-sponsoring employers
Searching for Head of Finance openings without filtering for sponsorship readiness wastes time. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with recent visa filings, so you apply where visa sponsorship experience is already established, not a negotiation.
Ask your employer to prepare a support letter for TN processing
For Mexican citizens requiring consular processing, confirm your employer has prepared a comprehensive support letter and submitted it to the U.S. consulate before your visa appointment. Coordinate with your employer's legal counsel at least three weeks before your scheduled interview to ensure all required documentation is ready for your consular processing.
Document your direct reports and budget authority clearly
At the port of entry or consulate, CBP officers may probe whether your Head of Finance duties involve substantive accounting work. Prepare a one-page role summary showing financial reporting responsibilities, not just leadership scope, to support your TN petition.

Find Head Of Finance JobsHead Of Finance TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Finance role qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, if the role is grounded in accounting and financial analysis rather than pure general management. CBP classifies these petitions under the Accountant TN category, which requires a CPA designation or a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Your offer letter must reflect duties like financial reporting, audit oversight, or budgetary analysis to satisfy the specialty occupation alignment.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for a Head of Finance position?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as your employer files and CBP approves, sometimes the same day at the border. H-1B requires entering the lottery in March with an October 1 start date at earliest. For a senior finance hire where timing matters, TN is faster and more predictable, though it does not lead directly to a green card.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN sponsorship for a Head of Finance job?
Yes, but the process differs from Canada. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate rather than at the port of entry, and the TN category for Mexico has a 5,500 annual allocation. Your employer still needs to prepare the supporting documentation, including the offer letter and credential evidence, and you'll need a consular appointment before entering the U.S.
Where can I find Head of Finance jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking roles with TN visa sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards where sponsorship willingness is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces Head of Finance openings from employers already prepared to support TN petitions, which shortens the time between application and a sponsorship-ready offer.
What documents does my employer need to sponsor my TN visa as Head of Finance?
Your employer needs to prepare a detailed offer letter specifying your job title, duties tied to the Accountant TN category, your credentials, and the terms of employment. For Mexican citizens, the employer provides a support letter that you present at your U.S. consulate appointment. Canadian citizens present the full package directly to CBP at the port of entry, so document quality is critical.
