Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Licensing Specialist
Verify your degree aligns with the role
CBP officers evaluate whether your credential directly supports the Licensing Specialist duties. A degree in law, business administration, or a regulated technical field is far stronger than a general studies background when officers assess specialty occupation fit.
Target regulated-industry employers first
Licensing Specialists at pharmaceutical companies, financial institutions, and software firms deal with federal or state regulatory compliance, which strengthens the specialty occupation argument for TN eligibility. These employers also have experience with work visa sponsorship and understand the visa support process, making them more likely to facilitate TN status for qualified candidates.
Request a detailed offer letter before applying
Your TN application depends entirely on what the offer letter says. Ask your employer to specify the regulatory or licensing framework you will manage, the degree field required, and your direct reporting structure. Vague job descriptions are the leading cause of CBP refusals for this role.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Not every employer advertising Licensing Specialist roles is prepared to support TN visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active sponsorship history, so you spend your time on applications that can actually move forward.
Understand the Mexican consular processing timeline
Mexican citizens cannot self-petition at the border. Your employer must schedule a consular appointment at a U.S. embassy in Mexico. Processing can run several weeks, so confirm your employer is willing to coordinate this before accepting an offer.
Prepare a credential equivalency letter if your degree is non-U.S.
CBP does not automatically accept foreign credentials as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree. A credential evaluation from a recognized assessment organization, paired with your official transcripts, helps officers confirm you meet the education threshold for the Licensing Specialist classification.

Find Licensing Specialist JobsLicensing Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Licensing Specialist role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the position is structured and what credentials it requires. TN status is available for roles that meet specialty occupation criteria under USMCA. A Licensing Specialist position tied to regulatory compliance, intellectual property, or a licensed industry, and requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, is well-positioned for TN eligibility. Roles that only require general administrative skills are harder to qualify.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Licensing Specialist positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-month wait for petition approval. Canadian professionals can receive TN status at the port of entry on the same day they present their documents. H-1B requires registration in March, lottery selection, and months of USCIS processing. For Licensing Specialists who qualify under USMCA, the TN path is significantly faster and more predictable.
What documents do I need to support a TN application as a Licensing Specialist?
You need a detailed offer letter from your U.S. employer specifying your job duties, the regulatory or licensing domain you will support, the required degree field, and your citizenship. You also need your original degree certificate, official transcripts, and, if your degree is from outside the U.S. or Canada, a credential evaluation. Mexican citizens additionally need a valid visa appointment and passport.
Where can I find Licensing Specialist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most generic job boards don't filter for TN visa sponsorship, which means you can spend weeks applying to employers who aren't prepared to support the process. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting Canadian and Mexican professionals find Licensing Specialist roles at employers with verified sponsorship history, so your applications go to the right places from the start.
Can my TN visa be renewed if I stay in the same Licensing Specialist role?
Yes. TN status is granted in three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely, provided you remain in the same qualifying role with the same employer or a new qualifying employer. Each renewal requires a new offer letter confirming your duties and degree requirement. There is no cumulative limit on how many times you can renew, unlike some other nonimmigrant classifications.
