Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Executive Director Of Development
Align your credentials to USMCA categories
TN status requires your role to match an approved USMCA occupation. Executive Director of Development positions typically qualify under management consultant or economist categories, so verify your degree field aligns before applying to any role.
Target nonprofits with federal funding streams
Nonprofits that receive federal grants are experienced with employment authorization documentation and more likely to support TN sponsorship. Universities, hospital foundations, and federally funded research organizations are your strongest targets for this title.
Search TN-sponsored roles using Migrate Mate
Filter for Executive Director of Development positions at employers with recent visa filings using Migrate Mate. This surfaces organizations experienced with work visa sponsorship, making them more likely to understand the TN application process and support your candidacy.
Prepare a credential package before outreach
CBP or a U.S. consulate will require your degree certificate, transcripts, and a detailed employer support letter at the time of application. Having these ready before you receive an offer shortens the time from offer to start date significantly.
Request a role-specific offer letter from your employer
The employer support letter must describe your duties in terms that map to the approved USMCA occupation, not just your job title. Generic letters citing only seniority level are a common reason CBP asks for additional documentation.
Understand Mexican nationals face a separate consular process
Unlike Canadians who can apply at a port of entry, Mexican citizens must schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate and receive a TN visa stamp before entering. Factor four to eight weeks into your start date timeline when negotiating with employers.

Find Executive Director Of Development JobsExecutive Director Of Development TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Executive Director of Development role qualify for TN visa status?
It can, but the qualifying category matters. CBP evaluates the actual duties, not just the title. Roles focused on fundraising strategy, donor relations program management, or organizational development typically align with the management consultant category. Roles that are primarily administrative or operational may face more scrutiny at the port of entry.
How does TN visa compare to H-1B for an Executive Director of Development position?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as your employer issues the offer letter and your application is approved. H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with roughly one-in-four odds and a months-long wait. For Mexican nationals, TN still requires consular processing but avoids the lottery entirely.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, a description of duties that maps to a qualifying USMCA occupation, your anticipated start date, and confirmation that the position is temporary in nature. A vague letter citing only seniority or salary is a frequent cause of delays at the border.
Where can I find Executive Director of Development jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters roles by TN visa sponsorship history so you're only seeing employers already familiar with the process. That matters for this title because many nonprofits and foundations support TN status but don't advertise it in job postings.
Can I renew TN status if I stay in the same Executive Director of Development role?
Yes. TN status is granted in three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying job offer and the role continues to meet USMCA occupation requirements. Each renewal requires a new employer support letter and, for Canadians, can be processed at a port of entry without returning to a consulate.
