Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Middle School Teacher
Match your credentials to state licensing requirements
TN status requires a qualifying degree, but U.S. school districts also expect state teaching certification. Verify that your Canadian or Mexican teaching credentials satisfy the specific state's licensure rules before you apply, as mismatches delay offers.
Target districts with active international hiring pipelines
Public school districts in teacher-shortage states routinely sponsor international candidates and are familiar with TN paperwork. Search for districts that participate in federally designated shortage-area programs, where administrators already understand foreign credential verification.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for TN-sponsoring school employers
Not every district lists sponsorship status in job postings. Migrate Mate surfaces schools and education employers with recent visa filings, so you spend time on applications at organizations experienced with visa sponsorship processes.
Prepare your credential evaluation before the offer stage
Gather your official transcripts, degree certificates, and a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before you receive an offer. Districts need these documents to draft the offer letter your TN application depends on.
Confirm your offer letter covers all TN documentation requirements
Your employer's offer letter must specify your title, duties, degree requirement, and employment period. Ask HR to confirm it aligns with USCIS's TN educator category criteria before you file, since an incomplete letter is the most common cause of TN delays for teachers.
Understand the Mexican TN consular appointment process early
Mexican citizens cannot use the Canadian port-of-entry TN process. You'll apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Mexico, so schedule your consular appointment as soon as you have a finalized offer letter and supporting documents ready.

Find Middle School Teacher JobsMiddle School Teacher TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Middle School Teacher role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in education or a directly related field. Roles where a degree is preferred but not formally required may not satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard for the TN educator category. Your offer letter must clearly state that a degree is a condition of employment.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Middle School Teacher positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no numerical cap for Canadian citizens, so you can apply at a port of entry and receive approval the same day if your documents are in order. The H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate. For qualified Canadian and Mexican teachers, TN is the faster and more predictable path.
Where can I find Middle School Teacher jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which means you'll spend significant time on postings from districts that won't sponsor. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN and other work visa job searches, letting you filter for employers with documented sponsorship history in education roles.
Do I need a U.S. state teaching license to get TN status as a Middle School Teacher?
USCIS does not require a U.S. teaching license to approve TN status, but the hiring school district almost certainly will. Most states require certification or licensure before you can work in a public school classroom. You'll typically need to apply for a state teaching license in parallel with your TN application, using your foreign credentials and a NACES credential evaluation.
Can my spouse work in the U.S. while I'm on TN status as a teacher?
Spouses of TN visa holders enter on TD status, which is a dependent classification that does not include work authorization. Your spouse cannot accept U.S. employment while on TD status. If your spouse also qualifies for TN status in their own occupation listed under USMCA, they can apply for their own TN independently.
