Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Orthotist
Verify your credentials meet TN standards
TN classification for orthotists requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in orthotics, prosthetics, or a related field. Confirm your credential aligns with USMCA requirements before targeting employers, so you can present documentation confidently during any employer or CBP review.
Target hospitals with dedicated orthotics departments
Rehabilitation hospitals, children's hospitals, and VA medical centers maintain in-house orthotics labs with dedicated staffing needs. These employers understand specialty occupation hiring and are far more likely to provide the support letter CBP requires at the port of entry.
Ask employers about the support letter format
Your employer's support letter must specify your job title, duties, TN category, and the fact that you hold a qualifying credential. Many employers draft generic offer letters that CBP rejects. Request a TN-specific letter before your travel date, not after.
Use Migrate Mate to find orthotist roles with sponsorship history
Not all orthotist postings come from employers familiar with TN sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters roles by TN visa eligibility so you spend time on employers already prepared to support your application, not educating HR from scratch.
Prepare your Canadian or Mexican licence documentation early
CBP officers reviewing TN applications for orthotists expect proof of provincial or national licensure alongside your degree. Delays often stem from missing licence certificates, not the degree itself. Gather certified copies of both before your port-of-entry or consular appointment.
Understand how TN duration affects your start date negotiation
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no cap on renewals for Canadians. Use this to negotiate a firm start date with your employer rather than waiting for an uncertain government processing window, as Canadian TN approvals happen same-day at the port of entry.

Find Orthotist JobsOrthotist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the orthotist role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Orthotists qualify under the USMCA TN visa category for medical and allied health professionals. The role must involve designing, fabricating, and fitting orthotic devices, and you must hold a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in orthotics, prosthetics, or a closely related field. A valid provincial or national licence strengthens your application further.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for orthotist positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be approved same-day at a U.S. port of entry, making it significantly faster than the H-1B process. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery held once per year, with waits of six months or more. For Canadian orthotists with a qualifying degree, TN is almost always the faster and more reliable path.
What documentation does a Canadian orthotist need at the port of entry?
You'll need your Canadian passport, a TN support letter from your U.S. employer on company letterhead specifying your job title and duties, proof of your qualifying degree, and evidence of provincial licensure where applicable. CBP officers assess all of this on the spot, so having organized, complete documents avoids delays or secondary inspection.
How can I find orthotist jobs where the employer already understands TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting Canadian and Mexican professionals with U.S. employers who are prepared to support TN visa applications. Searching through Migrate Mate filters out roles where you'd need to explain TN basics to HR, so you can focus your effort on employers already equipped to issue the right support documentation.
Can a Mexican orthotist use the TN visa, and is the process different?
Yes, Mexican orthotists can apply for TN status, but the process differs from the Canadian path. Mexican nationals must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than a port of entry, which involves scheduling a visa interview and waiting for consular processing. The same credential and employer support letter requirements apply, but plan for a longer lead time before your U.S. start date.
