Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Oncology Registered Nurse
Verify your NCLEX credential before applying
Canadian and Mexican RNs must hold a U.S.-recognized nursing license to qualify for TN status. Complete your NCLEX-RN and obtain state licensure in the state where your oncology role is located before submitting any TN petition.
Target hospital systems with dedicated oncology units
Freestanding cancer centers, NCI-designated hospitals, and large academic medical centers regularly hire oncology RNs across borders. These employers already understand specialty nursing credentials and are more practiced at structuring TN support letters for clinical roles.
Search TN-sponsored oncology roles on Migrate Mate
Filtering for TN-eligible oncology nursing positions narrows your search to employers already prepared to sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces these roles so you're not spending hours vetting whether an employer's HR team understands the USMCA Nurse category.
Require a specialty-specific TN support letter
Generic nursing offer letters get scrutinized at the border. Ask your employer to specify oncology duties, chemotherapy administration, or palliative care responsibilities in the letter. CBP officers assess whether the described role fits the Nurse professional category.
Understand the Mexican TN allocation before accepting an offer
Mexico has a 5,500 annual TN cap, unlike Canada's uncapped access. If you're a Mexican RN, confirm timing with your employer early so the filing lands before the fiscal year allocation is exhausted, especially for roles starting in Q3 or Q4.
Prepare oncology-specific CGFNS documentation if foreign-trained
Mexican nurses who completed training outside North America often need Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) credential evaluation alongside NCLEX results. Line this up before your employer submits any TN paperwork to avoid delays at adjudication.

Find Oncology Registered Nurse JobsOncology Registered Nurse TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does oncology nursing qualify for TN visa status under USMCA?
Yes. Registered Nurses are explicitly listed in the USMCA professional categories eligible for TN status. An oncology RN role qualifies as long as you hold a valid U.S. state nursing license and your employer's offer letter describes duties consistent with professional nursing. The specialty itself doesn't create any additional category requirements beyond the standard Nurse classification.
How does TN compare to H-1B for oncology RNs?
TN is almost always the better path for Canadian and Mexican oncology nurses. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and approval typically happens at the port of entry for Canadians or through USCIS for Mexicans, often within weeks. H-1B requires a lottery entry each spring, a long wait if selected, and significantly more employer paperwork. For RNs who qualify under USMCA, TN removes most of the uncertainty H-1B introduces.
Can my oncology employer sponsor my TN visa if they've never done it before?
Yes, but preparation matters. A first-time TN employer needs to draft a compliant support letter that specifies the professional nursing duties, the oncology unit, and the employment terms. CBP and USCIS both assess whether the role fits the Nurse category, so vague or generic letters increase the risk of a request for evidence or a border denial. Walking your HR team through the USMCA Nurse requirements before submission prevents most common errors.
Where can I find oncology nursing jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter for oncology RN roles where the employer is prepared to sponsor TN visas, so you're not starting from scratch with every application or explaining TN visa eligibility to recruiters who've never heard of USMCA. It's a faster starting point than broad job searches that don't filter by visa type.
How long does TN visa approval take for an oncology RN position?
Canadian oncology nurses applying at a U.S. port of entry or preclearance airport typically receive a decision the same day. Mexican nurses must file with USCIS, where standard processing currently runs one to three months. Premium processing is available for Mexican TN petitions and brings the decision to 15 business days. Your employer's willingness to pay for premium processing can significantly affect your start date, so confirm that early in the offer stage.
