Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Physician Assistant
Verify your NCCPA certification is current
TN visa classification for Physician Assistants requires active NCCPA certification. If yours has lapsed or your CME credits are incomplete, resolve that before contacting employers. A gap here stalls sponsorship before it starts.
Target employers with in-house credentialing teams
Health systems and hospital networks typically handle TN documentation internally through HR or legal departments. These employers move faster than smaller clinics that outsource immigration filings to outside counsel for the first time.
Clarify state licensure requirements before accepting offers
Some states require full licensure before you start work; others accept a temporary or provisional license. Confirm what your offer state allows for TN holders so your start date doesn't slip after the employer files.
Request TN sponsorship explicitly during salary negotiation
Employers don't always volunteer TN filing details during offers. Ask your hiring contact to confirm the employer will file your TN documentation, cover associated costs, and name a point of contact in HR or legal before you sign.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively sponsoring TN visas
Not every PA job listing includes sponsorship details. Use Migrate Mate to filter Physician Assistant roles by employers with TN visa sponsorship history, so you're applying where the infrastructure already exists.
Prepare a credentials packet before your first interview
Assemble your NCCPA certificate, degree transcript, state license, and USMCA nationality documentation before interviews begin. Employers who sponsor TN visas often request these documents immediately after extending an offer.
Physician Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Physician Assistant role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Physician Assistants are explicitly listed as a qualifying occupation under the USMCA TN visa category. You need a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree and active NCCPA certification. Some states also require a valid state PA license before your employer can complete the sponsorship filing, so confirm your target state's requirements early.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Physician Assistants compare to H-1B?
TN sponsorship is significantly more straightforward for PA roles. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no lengthy USCIS petition queue. Canadian PAs can often get TN status approved at the port of entry the same day. H-1B visa requires a lottery selection and months of processing, which means TN is the practical first choice for most Canadian and Mexican PA job seekers.
Can Mexican Physician Assistants get TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, but Mexican nationals apply through a U.S. consulate rather than at the border, and the TN allocation for Mexico is subject to an annual numerical limit. Mexican PAs should factor consular appointment availability and processing timelines into their job search and start-date planning, as the path differs meaningfully from the Canadian port-of-entry process.
Where can I find Physician Assistant jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. jobs that may qualify for TN visa status. You can search Physician Assistant roles filtered by employers with recent visa filings, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying to listings that don't include immigration support details.
What happens to my TN status if my Physician Assistant employer terminates my employment?
TN status is tied to the specific employer and role that filed your documentation. If your employment ends, your TN status ends with it. You'll need to either leave the country, secure a new employer willing to file fresh TN documentation, or change to another visa status before your grace period expires. USCIS does not provide an automatic grace period for TN holders the way it does for H-1B.
