Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Medical Coder
Verify your credential meets TN requirements
TN officers expect a recognized coding credential alongside your degree. A CPC, CCS, or RHIT confirms specialty occupation standing and reduces the risk of a documentation challenge at the port of entry or consulate.
Request a support letter that names your coding specialty
Your employer's support letter must connect your credentials to the specific coding function, whether that's inpatient DRG coding, outpatient E&M coding, or auditing. A vague letter citing general 'medical services' invites officer scrutiny.
Search for TN-sponsored Medical Coder roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship, so you're not guessing which employers will support your application. Search by role and location to find Medical Coder positions from employers already familiar with the TN process.
Clarify remote work arrangements before filing
If your Medical Coder role is fully remote, your employer's address on the TN support letter must reflect where the work is supervised or where the company is headquartered. CBP officers sometimes flag remote-only arrangements without a clear worksite.
Prepare for consular processing if you hold Mexican citizenship
Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate rather than at the border. Schedule your appointment early, since consular wait times vary by location. Bring your credential certificates, degree transcripts, and the employer support letter in a single organized package.

Find Medical Coder JobsMedical Coder TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Medical Coder role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, Medical Coders qualify under the USMCA's Medical/Allied Professionals category, provided you hold a recognized credential such as a CPC or CCS and a relevant degree in health information management or a closely related field. The role must require specialized knowledge, not general administrative duties, so your employer's support letter should describe your specific coding function clearly.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Medical Coders?
TN is faster and more predictable for Canadian and Mexican Medical Coders. There's no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no multi-month USCIS processing wait. Canadians can receive TN approval at the port of entry the same day. H-1B requires lottery selection, a registered employer petition, and typically a wait of six months or more before you can start work.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a signed support letter on company letterhead that states your job title, the professional category under USMCA, your anticipated start date, and confirmation that the role requires your specific medical coding credentials. The letter doesn't need to be filed with any government agency in advance, but it must be detailed enough to satisfy a CBP officer or consular officer.
How can I find Medical Coder jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Medical Coder positions filtered specifically for TN visa sponsorship, so you can identify employers who are already prepared to support the application process. Searching by role and city lets you target openings at healthcare systems and revenue cycle companies familiar with USMCA professional categories, which shortens the negotiation stage significantly.
Can I switch employers after receiving TN status as a Medical Coder?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization before starting with the new employer. Your TN status is tied to the specific employer named in your approval. Canadians can obtain a new TN at the port of entry with a fresh support letter from the new employer. Mexican nationals need to schedule a new consular appointment. Working for a new employer before the new TN is approved is a status violation.
