Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Behavioral Health Specialist
Verify your credential category before applying
TN classification for behavioral health roles depends on whether your degree maps to Social Worker, Psychologist, or another USMCA category. A mismatch between your credential and the job title is the most common reason TN petitions get rejected at the border.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Hospital systems, community mental health centers, and federally qualified health centers frequently sponsor work visas for professionals. Prioritize organizations with recent visa filings, as their HR team will be familiar with visa sponsorship processes and can quickly prepare the support letter your employer needs to provide for your TN application at the port of entry or consulate.
Request a support letter that matches USMCA language
Your employer's support letter must specify your TN category, describe your duties in terms that align with the USMCA occupation definition, and confirm you hold the required degree. Generic offer letters from HR have caused port-of-entry denials for behavioral health professionals.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers fast
Searching broadly wastes time when most employers won't sponsor. Migrate Mate filters Behavioral Health Specialist roles by TN visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers already open to Canadian and Mexican professionals.
Prepare for Mexican consular processing timelines
Mexican citizens need a U.S. consular appointment for TN status, which adds weeks to the process. Request your employer's support letter and gather your credential documentation before scheduling, so you're not waiting on paperwork after your appointment date is set.
Clarify licensure requirements with each state before accepting an offer
Most U.S. states require behavioral health professionals to hold a state license before practicing independently. Canadian or Mexican credentials don't transfer automatically, and some employers won't sponsor until you've started the licensure process in that state.

Find Behavioral Health Specialist JobsBehavioral Health Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Behavioral Health Specialist role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the classification depends on your specific credential and job duties. Roles aligned with social work typically fall under the USMCA Social Worker category, while positions requiring a graduate psychology degree may qualify under Psychologist. Your employer's support letter must match your degree and duties to the correct USMCA category, or a CBP officer can deny entry.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Behavioral Health Specialist positions?
TN is faster and more predictable for this role. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-month USCIS adjudication. Canadian citizens can get TN status approved at a port of entry the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a random lottery, and most behavioral health employers won't commit to that process when TN is available.
Where can I find Behavioral Health Specialist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters roles by TN visa sponsorship so you're not sifting through listings from employers who don't sponsor. For behavioral health roles specifically, community mental health centers, hospital systems, and nonprofit human services organizations are the most active TN sponsors.
Can Mexican citizens get TN status for behavioral health roles, and is there a cap?
Yes, Mexican citizens can obtain TN status, but they must apply through a U.S. consulate rather than at the border. There is a statutory limit of 5,500 TN visas per year for Mexican nationals across all qualifying professions, so timing matters. Starting your consular application as soon as you have a job offer reduces your exposure to delays.
Does my Canadian or Mexican behavioral health credential satisfy U.S. TN requirements?
CBP evaluates your degree against the USMCA occupation definition, not against U.S. state licensing boards. A Canadian bachelor's in social work or a Mexican licenciatura in psychology can satisfy TN academic requirements even if you haven't yet obtained a U.S. state license. State licensure is a separate requirement your employer may impose independently of TN eligibility.
