Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Patient Navigator
Align your credentials to TN requirements
Patient Navigator roles are classified under Social Worker or Health Education Specialist on the TN visa occupation list. Pull your transcripts and verify your degree field maps directly to one of these categories before approaching employers.
Target federally qualified health centers first
Federally Qualified Health Centers serve underinsured populations and regularly hire Patient Navigators with TN sponsorship. These employers are familiar with the documentation requirements and often have established processes for sponsoring international health professionals.
Request a support letter before your port entry
Canadians can secure TN status at the border, but you need a detailed employer support letter specifying your role, salary, duties, and degree requirement. A vague letter is the most common reason CBP officers request additional review.
Clarify the occupation category with hiring managers
Patient Navigator is not a named TN category, so your employer's HR team must classify you under a qualifying occupation. Raise this early in the offer stage so the offer letter uses the correct TN job classification from the start.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search for Patient Navigator positions with confirmed TN visa sponsorship using Migrate Mate. It filters roles by visa type so you avoid spending time on employers who have never navigated USMCA-based hiring.
Prepare for consular processing as a Mexican national
Mexican TN applicants must schedule a consular appointment at a U.S. embassy or consulate in Mexico. Book your appointment well before your intended start date since appointment availability varies significantly by location and season.
Patient Navigator TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Patient Navigator qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Patient Navigator is not explicitly listed as a TN occupation, but it can qualify when the role is classified under Social Worker or Health Education Specialist, both of which appear on the USMCA TN occupation list. Your degree must align with the classification your employer uses, and the job duties in your offer letter need to match that category clearly.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Patient Navigator roles?
TN is significantly more practical for this role. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian professionals, and Canadians can obtain TN status at the port of entry on the same day. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with roughly a one-in-four chance of selection. For Mexican nationals, TN requires consular processing but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer provides a support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, the TN occupation category being claimed, your anticipated start date, your compensation, and a description of your duties. Your employer does not file a petition with USCIS for Canadian applicants. For Mexican nationals, the employer's letter is submitted as part of the DS-160 consular application package.
Where can I find Patient Navigator jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards do not filter by visa type, which means you spend significant time on roles where the employer has no TN experience. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN and other USMCA visa holders, letting you search Patient Navigator positions by sponsorship status so you can focus on employers already prepared to support your application.
Can I renew my TN status if I stay in a Patient Navigator role long-term?
Yes. TN status is granted in three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, as long as you maintain a valid job offer in a qualifying occupation. Canadian professionals can renew at the port of entry or through USCIS. Mexican nationals renew through consular processing. There is no requirement to leave the TN category after a set number of years.
