Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant
Verify your PA credential equivalency first
Canadian PA graduates trained under programs not accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA) face extra scrutiny at the border. Confirm your degree and certification map to the U.S. NCCPA standard before approaching employers.
Target orthopedic groups with existing TN infrastructure
Hospital systems and orthopedic surgery groups with experience sponsoring work visas have HR teams familiar with TN visa requirements and port-of-entry documentation. Practices processing TN support letters for the first time may need additional time to prepare required employer documentation, potentially affecting start dates.
Search TN-sponsored orthopedic roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters orthopedic PA roles by employer visa sponsorship experience, so you're not cold-applying to practices unfamiliar with work visas. Use it to focus your outreach on employers who have sponsored visa workers before, increasing the likelihood they'll be willing to support your TN application with the required employer support letter.
Ask employers about prevailing wage requirements upfront
Your employer will provide a support letter documenting your qualifications and job offer for TN status. For Canadians, you'll present this letter at the U.S. border or port of entry. For Mexicans, your employer's letter supports your application at a U.S. consulate. There is no prevailing wage requirement or government wage certification for TN status, giving your employer more flexibility in structuring your compensation package.
Prepare a role-specific support letter from your employer
CBP officers at the port of entry assess whether your orthopedic PA duties qualify under the USMCA Medical/Allied Professionals category. Your employer's letter should detail specific clinical duties, surgical assist responsibilities, and the degree requirement for the position.
Plan your Mexican consular appointment around surgical schedules
Mexican nationals processing TN visas through a U.S. consulate face appointment wait times that vary by post. Schedule your consular interview before committing to an orthopedic practice start date, since rescheduling a surgery-heavy onboarding window carries real cost for both sides.
Orthopedic Physician Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Orthopedic Physician Assistant qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Physician Assistants are listed under the USMCA's Medical/Allied Professionals category, which covers graduates of a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree program in PA studies. Your orthopedic specialization doesn't change your TN eligibility, but your employer's offer letter must specifically describe duties consistent with the PA classification, not a more general clinical assistant role.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Orthopedic Physician Assistant roles?
TN is faster and has no lottery. Canadian PAs can be approved at the port of entry the same day they present their employer's support letter to immigration officials. H-1B visa requires a lottery registration in March, a cap-subject petition, and a wait until October 1 to begin work. For orthopedic practices that need a PA on staff quickly, TN removes months of uncertainty that H-1B cannot.
What documents does a Canadian PA need at the border for TN admission?
You'll need your valid Canadian passport, your employer's support letter detailing your orthopedic PA duties and annual compensation, and your PA credential documentation including your degree and NCCPA certification. CBP officers may also ask for your state license or proof of licensure eligibility in the state where you'll practice.
Where can I find Orthopedic Physician Assistant jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking roles that may qualify for TN status. You can filter orthopedic PA positions by employers with recent visa filings, which cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to practices unfamiliar with visa sponsorship generally.
Can a Mexican PA renew TN status from inside the United States?
Yes, but the process differs from Canadian nationals. Mexican PAs renewing TN status must either apply for an extension through USCIS using Form I-129 or leave the U.S. and reapply at a consulate. The I-129 route lets you stay and work while the petition is pending, but USCIS processing can run several months, so file at least 90 days before your current TN expires.
