Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Mental Health Professional
Verify your credential meets TN requirements
TN eligibility for Mental Health Professionals hinges on licensure and degree level. Confirm your provincial or Mexican license maps to a qualifying U.S. mental health credential before applying, since officers scrutinize credential-to-role alignment closely.
Target healthcare systems experienced with visa sponsorship
Large hospital networks, federally qualified health centers, and VA-contracted behavioral health organizations have recent visa filings and experience with work visa sponsorship. Prioritize employers already familiar with visa sponsorship processes to avoid delays caused by internal legal teams encountering international hiring for the first time.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time when most employers lack visa sponsorship experience. Migrate Mate filters Mental Health Professional roles by employer visa filing activity, letting you focus on companies already experienced with work visa processes and likely equipped to handle TN sponsorship smoothly.
Frame your offer letter around USMCA language
Your employer's offer letter must describe the role in terms that mirror USMCA's Mental Health Professional definition. A letter that says 'counseling services' without specifying clinical scope gives CBP officers reason to question eligibility at the port of entry.
Get licensed in the state where you'll work before your interview
CBP officers regularly ask about state licensure for Mental Health Professionals. Arriving at the port of entry with a conditional or pending state license creates unnecessary ambiguity. Secure full licensure or a reciprocity agreement in your destination state first.

Find Mental Health Professional JobsMental Health Professional TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Mental Health Professional category cover licensed clinical social workers and counselors, or only psychologists?
The TN Mental Health Professional category covers a range of licensed practitioners, including psychologists, clinical social workers, and professional counselors, provided they hold the required degree and licensure. The key is that your specific title and duties must align with what USMCA defines as a Mental Health Professional. Roles that blend administrative or case management work with clinical duties can face closer scrutiny at the border.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Mental Health Professionals compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, which means a qualifying offer can lead to a border approval in a single day. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery with only a fraction of registrants selected each cycle. For Mental Health Professionals with a Canadian or Mexican passport, TN is a faster and more predictable path, assuming the role and credentials meet USMCA's specialty occupation definition.
Where can I find Mental Health Professional jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers and lets you search Mental Health Professional roles filtered by sponsorship history. Most general job platforms don't surface TN-specific sponsorship data, which means you can spend significant time applying to employers who have never navigated the TN process. Filtering upfront by verified sponsorship history makes your search far more efficient.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa if I find a better mental health role mid-status?
Yes, but you can't begin working for the new employer until your new TN is approved. Canadians can apply at a port of entry for a same-day approval. Mexican nationals must wait for USCIS to process the new petition before starting. Plan your transition around this gap, and make sure the new offer letter clearly reflects your clinical role and USMCA-aligned job duties.
Do teletherapy or remote mental health roles qualify for TN sponsorship?
Remote roles can qualify, but CBP officers typically expect the employer to be a U.S.-based entity with a verifiable place of business. Fully remote arrangements where the employer has no U.S. office footprint can complicate the employment relationship requirement. If you're targeting telehealth employers, confirm they've successfully sponsored TN applicants before and that the offer letter establishes a clear U.S. employment relationship.
