Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Utilization Review Nurse
Secure your U.S. state nursing license first
TN sponsorship for nurses requires an active license in the state where you'll work, not just NCLEX passage. Start the endorsement process early since state boards can take six to twelve weeks to process applications from Canadian or Mexican RNs.
Target health systems with UR departments
Utilization Review roles at hospital networks, managed care organizations, and third-party payers are more likely to have dedicated HR teams familiar with TN visa paperwork. Focus your search on employers who already have clinical staff on work visas.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready employers
Filtering for employers experienced with visa sponsorship saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with recent visa filings by role type, so you're not cold-applying to organizations without sponsorship infrastructure. These employers have demonstrated experience navigating work visa processes, which often correlates with willingness to support TN candidates who meet the role requirements.
Clarify the offer letter's job duties section
CBP officers at the port of entry review your offer letter to confirm the role matches the registered nurse TN category. Make sure the letter explicitly describes clinical functions like concurrent review, prior authorization, and discharge planning, not just the job title.
Understand how Mexican applicants differ from Canadians
Mexican nationals must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at a port of entry. Processing time runs several weeks, so align your start date with your employer accordingly and confirm that the consulate accepts your specific state nursing license.
Confirm CGFNS or equivalency requirements upfront
Some U.S. state boards require internationally educated nurses to complete a CGFNS credentials evaluation before issuing a license. If you trained in Canada or Mexico, verify whether your state requires this step before you begin the sponsorship process.

Find Utilization Review Nurse JobsUtilization Review Nurse TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Utilization Review Nurse role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Utilization Review Nurses qualify under the registered nurse category in USMCA's TN visa occupational list. The role must involve clinical nursing judgment, such as prior authorization review, concurrent inpatient review, or discharge planning. Administrative nurse roles that lack direct clinical review functions may face additional scrutiny at the port of entry or consulate.
How does TN visa sponsorship for nurses compare to H-1B?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for Utilization Review Nurses. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no I-129 petition required for Canadian applicants who apply at the port of entry. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, carries lottery risk, and typically involves significantly more filing complexity and cost for both parties.
What documents does my employer need to sponsor my TN visa?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed offer letter on company letterhead that states your job title, duties, salary, and the fact that you hold a qualifying nursing degree. You are responsible for bringing your valid Canadian or Mexican passport, your active U.S. state nursing license, and your nursing degree credentials. Mexican nationals also need a valid visa appointment at a U.S. consulate.
Where can I find Utilization Review Nurse jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN visa sponsorship. The platform filters roles by visa type and employer sponsorship history, so you can identify health systems and managed care organizations that have already sponsored TN nurses rather than starting your search from scratch with employers who may be unfamiliar with the process.
Can I renew my TN status if I stay in a Utilization Review Nurse role long-term?
Yes. TN status can be renewed in three-year increments with no limit on the number of renewals, as long as you maintain a valid job offer in a qualifying registered nurse role and continue to hold an active U.S. state nursing license. Canadian nurses can renew at the port of entry or through USCIS by filing Form I-129. Mexican nationals must renew through a U.S. consulate.
