Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Behavior Technician
Verify your credentials match TN requirements
TN sponsorship for Behavior Technicians typically routes through the psychology occupational category. Confirm your degree, RBT certification, or BCBA credentials align with what CBP officers expect before approaching employers.
Target employers who already file TN petitions
Applied behavior analysis clinics, autism treatment centers, and school districts with established HR compliance teams are far more likely to sponsor TN visas than smaller private practices encountering the process for the first time.
Search TN-eligible roles at visa-sponsoring employers
Use Migrate Mate to filter Behavior Technician openings by employers with recent visa filings, so you're not spending time on roles where the hiring team lacks experience with work visa sponsorship.
Get your offer letter language right
The TN offer letter must specify your job title, duties, intended length of employment, and educational requirements of the position. Vague letters citing 'behavioral support' without referencing the psychology category create unnecessary friction at the port of entry.
Prepare for the psychology category documentation gap
CBP does not publish an exhaustive list of qualifying roles. Bring your degree transcripts, your RBT or BCBA certificate, and a letter from your employer linking your duties explicitly to psychology-based behavioral assessment and intervention.
Understand Mexican citizens face a separate filing path
Unlike Canadians who can self-sponsor at the border, Mexican nationals must apply through a U.S. consulate. Factor in consular appointment wait times when negotiating your start date with a prospective employer.

Find Behavior Technician JobsBehavior Technician TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Behavior Technician role qualify for TN visa status?
Behavior Technician positions can qualify under the TN psychology occupational category, but the fit is not automatic. CBP officers assess whether your specific duties involve psychological principles and behavioral assessment, not just task-based support work. Bringing your RBT or BCBA credentials and a detailed employer letter explaining how your role applies psychology strengthens your case significantly at the port of entry or consulate.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Behavior Technician jobs?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-month waiting period, making it far more predictable for Behavior Technicians than the H-1B. H-1B selection is random and only opens once a year, meaning you could wait over a year before starting work. TN status, by contrast, can be obtained at a Canadian port of entry the same day your offer letter is ready.
What documents do I need to bring to the border as a Canadian Behavior Technician?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, a TN support letter from your employer detailing your job title, duties, and qualifications, your academic transcripts or degree certificate, and your RBT or BCBA credential documentation. CBP officers have discretion, so the clearer your letter links behavioral technician duties to the psychology category, the smoother your entry. Do not rely on verbal explanations alone.
How can I find Behavior Technician employers who will sponsor TN visas?
Most employers won't advertise TN sponsorship explicitly, so filtering by those with prior USMCA filing experience saves significant time. Migrate Mate lets you search Behavior Technician roles specifically filtered for TN visa sponsorship, connecting you with employers already familiar with the process rather than ones encountering it for the first time during your job offer.
Can I extend my TN status if my Behavior Technician job continues?
Yes. TN status is granted in up to three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain qualifying employment. You can extend by filing Form I-129 with USCIS from inside the U.S. or by applying at the border with an updated employer support letter. There is no lifetime cap on renewals, making TN a sustainable long-term option for Behavior Technicians with ongoing employment.
