Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Registered Nurse
Verify your credentials meet TN requirements
TN classification for nurses requires a qualifying degree in nursing and a valid U.S. state RN license or proof you're eligible for licensure. Start the NCLEX and state licensing process before approaching employers, since most won't file without confirmed licensure eligibility.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Hospital systems, academic medical centers, and large integrated health networks have recent visa filings and established HR processes for international hiring. Targeting these employers means faster offer timelines, since their teams understand work visa sponsorship and can quickly prepare the support letter your employer will need to present at your port of entry or U.S. consulate.
Search TN-specific nursing roles through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters nursing jobs by TN visa sponsorship availability, so you're not guessing which employers will support your status. Use it to identify clinical RN roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
Clarify sponsorship terms before accepting an offer
Ask explicitly whether the employer covers TN filing costs, whether they'll support renewal filings, and whether the offer letter will include your job title, duties, and degree requirement in language that satisfies USCIS. Vague offer letters cause preventable refusals at the border.
Understand the Mexican TN cap before you plan
Mexican citizens are subject to a 5,500 annual TN allocation, unlike Canadians who have no cap. If you're Mexican, confirm your petition is filed before the cap fills each fiscal year to avoid processing delays that could affect your start date.
Prepare a role-specific support letter from your employer
The employer support letter must detail your specific nursing duties, the clinical setting, your scheduled hours, and why the role requires a nursing degree. Generic letters listing job titles without substantive description are a common reason TN applications get questioned at ports of entry.

Find Clinical Registered Nurse JobsClinical Registered Nurse TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Registered Nurse role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Registered Nurse is a listed USMCA professional category that qualifies for TN status. The role must require a nursing degree, and you must hold a valid U.S. RN license or a license from a recognized Canadian or Mexican nursing authority along with evidence of U.S. licensure eligibility. The employer must document that the position meets the specialty occupation standard.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Clinical Registered Nurse jobs?
TN is generally more accessible for Canadian nurses because there's no annual lottery, no cap, and processing can happen at a port of entry on the same day for Canadians. H-1B selection is lottery-based, capped at 85,000 annually, and requires months of advance filing. For Mexican nurses, TN has a 5,500 annual cap but still avoids the lottery. Both statuses require employer sponsorship.
What documents does a Canadian RN need to apply for TN status?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, an employer support letter describing the nursing role, proof of your nursing degree, and evidence of your current RN license or confirmed eligibility for a U.S. state license. If you haven't yet passed NCLEX, some employers will file contingent on licensure, but most CBP officers expect confirmed eligibility before granting entry.
Where can I find Clinical Registered Nurse jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search nursing roles filtered specifically by TN visa sponsorship availability, so you can focus on employers who have already committed to supporting the filing. This avoids spending time on applications where sponsorship is uncertain or where HR teams are unfamiliar with the TN process for nursing roles.
Can I switch nursing employers while on TN status?
Yes, but your TN authorization is tied to your current employer. You can't start working for a new employer until a new TN petition is approved or, for Canadians, granted at a port of entry. Plan the transition so you don't have a gap in work authorization, and confirm the new employer will initiate the filing before your last day with the current one.
