Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Public Health
Align your credentials to qualifying TN titles
The TN category lists specific occupations. Confirm your degree and job duties map to a recognized title like epidemiologist or health officer before approaching employers, since a title mismatch is the most common reason TN petitions fail at the border.
Target employers with public health infrastructure
Health departments, hospital systems, nonprofits with federal contracts, and academic medical centers routinely hire international public health professionals. These organizations already have HR processes for work authorization and are less likely to stall on sponsorship paperwork.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-ready employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers who have never sponsored a TN worker. Migrate Mate filters Public Health roles by sponsorship history so you apply where the path already exists, not where you have to explain the visa from scratch.
Request a support letter with precise job duties
Your employer's support letter must describe your specific responsibilities in language that matches the TN occupation definition. Vague titles like 'health consultant' raise CBP scrutiny. Ask HR to include your degree field, reporting structure, and day-to-day functions.
Prepare your credentials package before the offer stage
Canadian applicants apply directly at a port of entry, so delays happen when documents are incomplete. Gather your degree transcripts, credential evaluations if needed, and any relevant licensure before you receive an offer, not after.
Understand Mexico's TN allocation before your timeline
Mexican nationals should be aware that TN visa allocations may be subject to annual caps. If you're Mexican, it's recommended to verify current availability early in your job search process so you can plan your start date accordingly. Unlike Canadians who can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry, Mexican nationals must apply through a U.S. consulate, so confirming availability before your consulate appointment will help ensure a smoother application process.

Find Public Health JobsPublic Health TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Public Health qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Yes, public health roles can qualify under the TN visa's Social Worker or, more commonly, the Scientific Technician/Technologist or other designated categories, but the fit depends on your specific title and duties. Epidemiologists, health educators, and public health analysts typically qualify when the role requires a relevant bachelor's degree or higher and the job duties align with the occupation definition CBP applies at the border.
How does TN visa compare to H-1B for Public Health professionals?
TN is significantly more practical for Canadian and Mexican public health professionals because there's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and Canadians can obtain approval at a port of entry the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, lottery selection, and a lengthy USCIS adjudication process. The trade-off is that TN doesn't allow dual intent, so it's not a direct path to a green card the way H-1B can be.
Can a state or county health department sponsor a TN visa?
Yes, government health departments at the state, county, and municipal level are legitimate TN sponsors. You don't need a private employer. The department issues a support letter outlining your role, your degree requirements, and your employment terms. Because these organizations operate under federal compliance frameworks, they're often familiar with work authorization documentation and can prepare the letter accurately.
Where can I find Public Health jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN visa roles. Rather than filtering through postings that don't mention sponsorship or require you to ask about it mid-process, Migrate Mate surfaces Public Health positions where TN sponsorship is already part of the hiring conversation, saving you time and reducing the risk of late-stage rejections.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that describes the professional capacity in which you'll work, your specific job duties, the degree or credential required, the length of employment, and your compensation terms. For Canadian applicants presenting at a port of entry, this letter is the core document CBP reviews alongside your degree transcripts and any professional credentials relevant to the public health role.
