Verify your NCLEX before applying
TN visa sponsorship for RN Float Pool roles requires an active U.S. RN license, not just a Canadian or Mexican credential. Pass the NCLEX and secure state licensure before targeting employers, since most won't initiate the TN process without it.
Target health systems with float pool programs
Large academic medical centers and regional hospital networks run dedicated float pools staffed year-round, which means they file TN petitions regularly. Look for postings that list float pool or resource pool in the job title rather than unit-specific RN roles.
Search TN-sponsored nursing roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters RN Float Pool jobs by employers with active TN visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to postings that may not support TN. Use it to identify health systems already familiar with the TN filing process for nursing roles.
Confirm the employer will sign the TN support letter
Canadian citizens can request TN status at the U.S. border without a prior USCIS petition, but the employer must provide a signed support letter describing the role, your qualifications, and duration of employment. Confirm this before accepting an offer.
Understand how float pool scheduling affects TN status
Float pool RNs often work at multiple facilities within one health system. Make sure your TN documentation names the employing entity, not individual hospital sites, so cross-facility assignments don't create ambiguity about your authorized work location.
Plan TN renewals around float pool contract cycles
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with unlimited renewals available. If your float pool contract is shorter, coordinate with your employer's HR team to align the TN period with your expected employment duration to avoid mid-assignment gaps.
RN Float Pool TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an RN Float Pool position qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Registered nurse is a listed TN visa occupation under the USMCA treaty, and float pool roles meet the definition as long as you hold an active U.S. RN license and the employer provides a support letter confirming the position. The float pool structure itself doesn't disqualify the role, provided the employing entity is clearly identified in your TN documentation.
How does TN compare to H-1B for RN Float Pool jobs?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, meaning you can obtain status at the border or through a USCIS petition without waiting for a random selection. H-1B visa slots are capped at 85,000 annually and require employer sponsorship months before the start date. For RN Float Pool roles, TN is typically faster and more predictable, especially for Canadians.
Where can I find RN Float Pool jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It shows RN Float Pool postings filtered by employers with TN visa sponsorship history, so you can focus on health systems that already understand the process rather than spending time on employers unfamiliar with TN filings for nursing roles.
Can Mexican RNs use the TN visa for Float Pool positions?
Yes, but Mexican TN applicants must file a petition with USCIS rather than requesting status at the border, and a numerical cap applies to Mexican TN workers. Processing is handled through USCIS, which typically takes several months. Mexican RNs should account for this timeline when negotiating a start date with the float pool employer.
What happens to TN status if I move between hospitals within the same health system?
Your TN status is tied to the petitioning employer, not individual worksites. If your health system employs you centrally through a float pool, working across facilities within that entity is generally covered. Assignments to a legally separate entity, such as a different hospital corporation, would require a new TN petition before you begin work there.
