Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Epidemiologist
Translate your credentials into U.S. terminology
Canadian and Mexican epidemiology degrees often list specializations differently than U.S. equivalents. Get a credential evaluation that maps your degree field to the TN visa occupational requirements for Epidemiologist so your employer's TN support letter uses the exact qualifying language.
Target federal and state public health agencies first
CDC-affiliated agencies, state health departments, and university research centers file TN petitions routinely for Epidemiologist roles. These employers already understand the documentation requirements and are less likely to mistake TN for H-1B visa sponsorship when you raise it.
Search verified TN sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Epidemiologist roles by employers with recent visa filings. This saves you from applying to postings where hiring managers may not yet realize TN eligibility is possible for this occupation.
Confirm your role maps to the right USMCA category
TN eligibility for Epidemiologists falls under the Scientific category, which requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree. If your job description leans toward management or policy rather than applied research, ask the employer to frame the duties in scientific terms to avoid a TN refusal at the port of entry.
Negotiate who handles the TN filing before signing
Canadians can self-file at a port of entry with employer documentation, but many employers prefer to control the process. Clarify in writing whether the employer or you will prepare the TN packet so nothing falls through the gap between offer acceptance and your start date.
Prepare for Mexican nationals' consulate timeline early
Mexican nationals apply for TN status at a U.S. consulate, not at the border. Schedule your consular interview immediately after your offer letter is finalized. Appointment availability in major Mexican cities can run several weeks out, and your employer needs a realistic start date.
Epidemiologist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Epidemiologist role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Epidemiologist is a recognized profession under the USMCA TN visa category for Scientific roles. You need a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in epidemiology, public health, or a closely related life or health science field. The job duties must center on research, surveillance, or applied scientific analysis rather than purely administrative or managerial work.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Epidemiologist roles?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be processed at the port of entry in a single day for Canadian nationals. H-1B requires an annual lottery with a March registration window and a months-long wait before any work authorization begins. For Epidemiologists with Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Where can Canadian and Mexican Epidemiologists find employers that sponsor TN visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Epidemiologist roles specifically filtered by employers with TN visa sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't distinguish between visa types, which means you often spend time on roles where the employer has never filed a TN petition and isn't prepared to start. Searching a TN-specific platform removes that friction.
What documentation does my employer need to support my TN application as an Epidemiologist?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead that identifies your job title as Epidemiologist, describes the scientific duties you'll perform, confirms your degree qualifies you for the role, and states your compensation and employment period. You'll also carry your degree certificate and transcripts. USCIS or CBP officers can request additional evidence if the letter is vague about duties.
Can a Mexican national Epidemiologist apply for TN status at the U.S. border like a Canadian?
No. Mexican nationals must apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Mexico before traveling to work in the United States. Canadian nationals are the only TN applicants who can seek admission directly at a port of entry or preclearance facility. Plan for Mexican consulate appointment availability, which can add several weeks to your timeline before a start date is realistic.
