Tower Technician Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tower technician in California?
California does not require a state-issued license specifically for tower technicians, but employers consistently require Comtrain or equivalent tower climbing and rescue certification before a candidate can work at height. Most entry-level hires hold a high school diploma or GED and complete a recognized climbing safety course. Cal/OSHA compliance training is effectively mandatory on California job sites, so obtaining OSHA construction safety certification before applying gives candidates a clear advantage.
How much do tower technicians make in California?
Tower technicians in California earn a median of about $62,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,650 for the lowest 10% to over $96,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tower technicians in California?
Employers hiring tower technicians in California right now include Monolithic Power Systems, Hitachi Global Air Power Us, and Quinn Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense carrier network and ongoing 5G infrastructure expansion keep hiring activity from these and similar contractors consistently active across the state.
Which California cities have the most tower technician jobs?
San Jose, Poway, and Livermore have the most tower technician openings in California. Los Angeles and San Diego drive volume through major carrier regional headquarters and dense urban cell site buildouts, while the Bay Area adds demand from technology campuses and 5G densification projects that require frequent on-site technician support.
Are there remote tower technician jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Tower technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring physical presence on structures to climb, install, and maintain equipment. About 8% of tower technician openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in project coordination, site acquisition, or RF engineering support rather than active field climbing roles.
How can I get hired as a tower technician in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a Comtrain or equivalent climbing and rescue certification, then applying directly to California-based tower subcontractors and infrastructure companies as a ground hand or tower hand apprentice. Large carriers and their California contractors regularly bring on entry-level climbers willing to start on the ground crew. A background in electrical work, construction, or rooftop solar installation is a strong lateral credential that California employers recognize when evaluating candidates without direct tower experience.
Where can I find and apply to tower technician jobs in California?
You can find and apply to tower technician jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from active employers. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the positions that match.
