PAY GRADE: $35/hr
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Tutors are responsible for helping students to understand different subjects. They assess, assist and encourage the students in the learning processes. These professionals also review materials used in classes, explain various topics, and answer all the doubts and questions of the student regarding that topic. Their functions are a supplementation to the classroom teaching.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Plans and facilitates tutoring sessions;
- Assists students in the development of appropriate study skills;
- Maintains consistent communication with supervisory staff;
- Models appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty and students;
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):
Licensing Requirements:
- Substitute or Standard Teaching Certificate from Arizona Department of Education;
- Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (position requirements at entry):
- Ability to work with diverse ethnic backgrounds;
- Possess good interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Possess characteristics of responsibility, desire to help others, discretion and flexibility;
- Knowledge of basic academic skills application and the ability to demonstrate the successful application of various academic skills;
- Ability to work independently applying critical thinking skills and problem solving to various situations
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Return To Work Retirees must submit a Return To Work form with ASRS and may be subject to 9% decrease in hourly rate.
