Job Description
MAIN FUNCTIONS: Under the general supervision of the physician and/or Director of Invasive Cardiology, the Cardiac Cath. Lab. Nurse is responsible for assessing nursing needs and initiating appropriate intervention for Adult and Geriatric patients in Cardiac Cath. Lab, Department as required. Maintains standards of nursing care and practice of the Nursing Department.
Education: Graduate from an approved school of nursing. BCLS, ACLS, IABP Certification. Complete IV Certification course and Telemetry certification as per Medical Center policy.
Experience: Knowledge of radiographic procedures and equipment desirable. Experience in Medical-Surgical Nursing; 1-2 years Critical care experience required.
LICENSURE/QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a professional role model and function independently with minimal supervision. Current RN license to practice professional nursing in NJ. BLS, ACLS, IABP required. PALS certification and experience in EKG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring. PTCA experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: Patient care setting, excellent working environment. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens, exposure to illness/hazardous chemicals/stressful situations. Exposure to body fluids, tissue and radiation. Able to wear lead apron and stand an extended period of time.
Physical Requirements: Extensive mobility required, lifting objects weighing more than 30 pounds frequently; perform difficult manipulative skills, arm-hand steadiness, and hand-eye coordination skills; walk and stand for prolonged periods; see objects closely; and hear normal sounds with some background noises; standing, pushing wheelchairs, stretchers, lifting, etc.
REPORTS TO: Director of Invasive Cardiology Services.
CONTACTS: Staff, physicians, Medical Center personnel, patients, and visitors.
SUPERVISES: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Technologists (RCVT).
